Mayaka can be found sitting along the street outside her house in the Lum Berry housing district. Strewn around her in a messy circle are torn and crumpled paper balls -- rejected ideas of what she should submit for Togetic's upcoming art show. The Sneasel stares at her blank sketchpad, brow furrowed, mouth twisted in an indignant frown.

"Is this artist's block?!" she shouts in frustration.

She thought a change of environment would do her some good -- she wasn't getting any ideas in the Archives nor her room. But it seems that she needs more than that to help her overcome this challenge.

"Elly-chan... I hope you have some good ideas."

She'd asked Eleanor to be her partner for the competition since she was interested in art too, and she remembered how vibrant her crayon doodles had been. Mayaka wanted to have something, a rough draft or at least a seed of an idea, to show the Brionne once she got here, but it seems she can't even manage that.

In front of Mayaka, one of the paper balls twitch. Then it shudders. Then the crumpled wad slowly begins to levitate off the ground, right in front of Mayaka. What was this? A sign from the heavens? Divine intervention? Inspiration?

Well, it was none of those things. The balled up paper is thrown at Mayaka rather harmlessly, bouncing off of Mayaka's head and plopping on the ground. The paper rolls vaguely towards the culprit, a familiar, orange and yellow ostrich wearing a rather fancy purple coat.

"Do you enjoy littering? Or are you making a mess for fun?" Anasui asks plainly, looking at the ground.

Eleanor's got her own pad of paper in front of her, much less hurriedly torn apart. She's sketching - or at least, as close as one can get to sketching since she's still using her crayons. It's not really clear if she's drawing anything in particular, or if it's something more abstract.

"Well, I was hoping you could give me something to colour--"

She's interrupted by a ball of paper hitting Mayaka in the head.

"What the hell is your problem?" She asks, gaze immediately diverting to the culprit.

Eleanor's choice of abstract colors look really nice on paper, too bad there's no particular subject they can hone in on. Mayaka is staring so intensely at her sketchpad, she only realises what has happened after the paper ball bounces off her forehead.

"It's okay, Elly-chan. Anasui's just the kind of person who's very particular about everything," she says with resigned understanding, even though she dislikes being misrepresented by his accusations.

The little Sneasel stands up and marches over to confront the Espathra who is four times taller than her. "I'm not making a mess for fun! I'm just trying to come up with ideas for the art show! I'll clean this up once I figure out what to draw!"

Mayaka clutches her head with her claws as her frustration seeps out in a hushed grumble. "Will I ever figure out what to draw...?"

Anasui rolls his eyes. Evidently, he needs to make his sarcasm more obvious because he frankly doesn't care about the mess nor did he think the girls were making one. He was just trying to get Mayaka's attention. Not bothering to give Eleanor a response to her question, the bird looks down at Mayaka in front of him.

"An art show, huh? Is there a theme?" he asks, curiously. He then looks up at Eleanor, trying to see if he actually recognised her. "Is this a brainstorm session or are you two planning on submitting something together?"

"Well, we'd like to submit something." She's not sure why he's framing it as though the two of those are mutually exclusive.

Does Mayaka know this guy? She has to, if she knows his name, but. "It's not going well, as you've probably deduced."

Mayaka notices Anasui sizing up her friend, and decides that she should help with introductions.

"This is Elly-chan, er, Eleanor! Have you two met?"

Then she turns around on the spot, taking note of all the pieces of paper she's shredded and balled up. It's a lot more than she realised.

"There's no theme, which is why it's difficult to land on an idea right now. Flowey is one of the judges, but I don't want to just make something that he'll like," Mayaka explains, before recalling what Anasui had told her before.

"I want to submit something 'good'. Whatever that means."

She'll know it when she sees it. Yeah!

He just assumed that they would have an idea of what they wanted to do if they were collaborating because he's weird like that.

Anasui looks at Eleanor for a long moment but then nods when a brief memory hits him. "Ah. You're the loud one who sort of knew what she was doing. Eleanor..."

Ah yes, but the topic at hand... "So what have you two agreed to not do? Are you doing a landscape? Portrait? Or something more abstract?" He's at least picked up it's gonna be a drawing or painting of some kind...

"If we'd ruled anything out, I feel like we'd be closer to an idea than we are."

She's just. Going to ignore his comment. That is not a conversation she remembers. Eleanor returns to her own doodles for a moment, continuing to shape them out a bit. "And it's not like any of those are anything specific."

Those are canvas orientations and an umbrella term, Anasui.

"I like your coat, by the way."

"We're finally here!" Mayaka says, even though they haven't even begun their quest in earnest.

The trek to Furnace Mountain had taken awhile, and the Sneasel had been so focused on making sure they were heading the right way, she hadn't actually asked Noelle how she was faring on the way up. Argh.

"L-chan, are you doing alright? Sorry, I got caught up in the navigating."

Following Mayaka's map, the determined pair of Lum Berries have been spending the last couple of hours sweeping through most of the parts of Furnace Mountain that are easily accessible from the outside. Should they be worried or relieved that it doesn't seem like the lost explorers are anywhere in the mountain? Checking in with a friendly Torkoal for spots they might have missed, and realising that Mayaka's map was incomplete, the pair finally arrive upon the plateau of strange bones.

"Eh?! What is this place?"

It's Mayaka's first time here and the sight is far from comforting!
