[CLOSED] Play Nice
Who: Akechi, Ren, Ingo
What: Play Nice
Where: The woods bordering the outpost.
Warnings: Wacky shenanigans with a Pelipper
Though Akechi brought his Safety Goggles as a precaution, the wooded area marked on the map presents far less of a daunting atmosphere than the Northern Forest. Perhaps it's to be expected, as the area's been thoroughly scouted out thus far.
As they make their way forward, Akechi hovers above the tall grass, but stops when a curious pair of eyes peers back... and then promptly disappears with a rustle.
"Wait! If you have a momentβ"
Nope. Too late. Grumbling, he lands momentarily and gazes at the others.
"We should remain alert, just in case. Given the dangers beyond the outpost, there's no guarantee we'll remain in safe conditions."

The Pelipper glances around, a bit jittery, to say the least. "W-Who're you?! Where are you?! Where am I?!" It pivots in a circle, tittering. "I was just at the coastline, but this isn't... beach. Nope! Not beachy in the slightest!"
no subject
"We are from the guilds in Bottlecap Bay, looking for lost Pokemon to escort back to town! I am - Ingo, and these are my associates Akechi and Ren." He stumbles slightly over omitting his own Warden title. This is all rather similar to before. "We can take you back that way, if you are interested!"
If there's to be a battle...well, he is not in the best position either. Unless he's very mistaken, this Pokemon is also a water-type. But a single attack shouldn't down him; he's willing to take the brunt of any initial aggressions.

"You're an odd bunch of pokemon, y'know," it says, "what's in it for me? Why should I follow you, hm?"
Sensing his time, Ren speaks up. An old instinct rears its head... this pokemon appears to be Jolly. He knows how to handle that.
"Well, there's a lot to do back in town," he matches the Pellipper's grin, his entire demeanor becoming upbeat. "There's shops, plenty of yummy food, and there are fun events regularly. You know, beach parties, festivals and the like."
"Oho! That sounds interesting..." the Pelipper's eyes sparkle a little as it lifts its wing to its face, and Ren continues.
"You could also join one of the guilds. We're here to help other Pokemon, improve Bottlecap Bay however we can, and we do all sorts of cool missions." He puffs out his chest, winking. "We also protect the town. Even if you don't join a guild, you'll be safe with us."
"Is that so?"
"Sure is? So, water you thinking?" He throws in a pun, at which the pelican lets out a guffaw.
"Well, that all sounds nice and good," the Pelipper says, "but I'm not convinced if they got two pipsqueaks like you on duty, even if you're with a big guy." It hums. "What I'm thinking..."
It spreads its wings proudly, excitedly, its giant beak opening wide.
"... is that I want you to show me that you're telling the truth! Come on, let's battle!"
no subject
Well, hm.
He glances at Ren and Ingo. Both suffer from weaknesses to either water or flying, and given Pelipper is a seafaring bird, it's a safe bet that it's a dual type.
However, they're a group of three. Clever tactics can account for individual weakness.
"Very well, but I warn you..." Akechi flutters into the air, whipping up a Tailwind around his teammates. "It's unwise to judge based on appearances!"
no subject
Ingo quickly does the same calculation: this isn't the best type match-up for the three of them. But it's only a single Pelipper, so he's not terribly concerned either. He'll just try to avoid getting absolutely drenched. "Very well!" he calls out, briefly rising up onto his hind legs to execute a point-and-call motion. "Follow the rules and drive safely! All aboard!"
That was extremely loud and no he sure did not warn anyone about it! He just drops back to all fours and unleashes a speed-boosted Infernal Parade. If he can get a burn, its power will be increased; it's really his best move in most scenarios that don't involve normal-types.
no subject
Still, that doesn't stop him from whiffing a Bite so he's no longer a grass type, giving him, while not a resistance, a better chance against the flying type-moves from Pelipper. Protean activates and he feels a change as the dark type is bestowed on him.
Meanwhile, the Pelipper squawks as the Infernal Parade connects- and immediately manages to land a burn! Flames flicker around the bird, and it hisses in pain.
"Ohoho! Two can play at that game!"
It whips up a Tailwind of its own, upping its speed to match with theirs, and riding the newfound wind in its back, it shoots forward with a Wing Attack towards Akechi, though it's weakened by the burn.
no subject
"Clever, but you'll find I've plenty more tricks up my sleeve!"
no subject
Perhaps he ought to hang back, considering his own water weakness...but letting Akechi hold the frontline himself feels too bad. Ingo remains where he is, simply bracing himself.
no subject
The Pelipper, meanwhile, greatly slowed down by the Scary Face, is unable to avoid the Infernal Parade, crying out in pain as it capitalizes on its burn. It falters briefly in the air, but it's not done yet. Changing tactics, it screeches out a Supersonic towards Akechi in order to confuse him, before diving for Ingo with a Water Pulse, hoping to hit his weakness!
Ren watches the entire thing, before deciding to jump in with a Helping Hand, ready to help Ingo with his next move against the Pelipper!
no subject
By some miracle, the Air Slash does flinch the Pelipper, giving Ingo an opening.
"Now, Ingo-san, while it's still disoriented!"
no subject
Existential musings or not, he's hardly down for the count. More power surges through him as Ren's Helping Hand takes effect, and more purple flames spill from his jaws towards the Pelipper.
no subject
"Alright, I give, I give!" it shouts, pushing itself upright with a chuckle. "I'll admit it, you guys know what you're doing. You don't see that kinda teamwork every day."
Ren closes in again now that the battle is over, shaking out his fur. "We did say so," he hums, somewhat teasing, and the Pelipper barks out a laugh.
"That you did! You really gave me a run for my money," it admits. "I'm impressed! Tell me, what are your names?"
"I'm Amamiya Ren, but just call me Ren," Ren introduces himself to the bird, who nods, then turns to the other two expectantly.
no subject
That begs the question of how names work with PokΓ©mon, really. Is every natural born PokΓ©mon expected to use their species name, even when others of the same species exist? For now, he keeps these thoughts to himself, but it has crossed his mind once or twice.

The Typhlosion steps back from his companions a few paces, then shakes the excess moisture from his coat. Burning his flames low should help to evaporate the rest!
no subject
"Ren, Akechi, and Ingo, then. I'll be sure to remember that," it says with a small smile. "You may call me Pelipper!"
And thus, the mystery of pokemon names continues to go unsolved. Alas.
"It's nice to meet you, Pelipper," Ren replies with a smile. "So, what do you say? You coming with us?"
"If all Pokemon back there are as interesting as you lot? I'd be an idiot not to." It perks up. "Show me the way to that Bottle Bay you came from!"
"Bottlecap Bay."
"That's what I said!"
no subject
"Yup, yup! You got it!"
Akechi is not entirely certain they've 'got it,' but he keeps such thoughts to himself.
"I suppose that's one mission accomplished, then. Well done."
no subject
He didn't do this on their way out there. Akechi, he trusts to keep close. Pelipper? Unclear!
