FLIGHT AND FREEZE
Who: Kris, Umemiya, Archnemon, Shoka, Bigby, Siffrin (SA), Kinger, Sanji, Need, Ren, Akechi, Anasui, Emporio, Ingo, Emmet... and Noelle!!
What: Move over Team Intimidate, there's a cooler Pokemon that needs saving.
When: Early October
Where: All over
Warnings: Will update as needed!!
[ QUEST START ]
After a tense day of discussion, organizing and planning, Kris and Ingo gather the volunteers at the outskirts of Bottlecap Bay. Supplies are handed out, groups are chosen, and everyone is given a quick debriefing on the plan: start close to home, then work their way further out as they narrow down her location. Some groups should hang back, ready to set out once a fresh lead is established—the pearls are perfect for this, so everyone should keep their own handy. Spreading out too wide will only make things difficult once they find her trail, so it's important that everyone stays on task.
Once everyone's roles have been assigned, it's time to set out. It's going to be a long, long day.

Noelle has vanished while recovering at the clinic and nobody can find her! She may have run away while having a mental health crisis. Please, bring her back safely!
Mightyena doesn't know where Noelle went, just that she was still in recovery when she vanished. She thought Noelle couldn't have gone far in her condition... but if that's the case, why hasn't she been found yet?

He does remember Noelle's story about her bout of amnesia. Is this related...? Maybe she's prone to such things, and he should have paid more attention from the start. ]
I'm afraid that I do not know Miss Holiday very well personally...if there anything we might be able to say in particular, to help her calm down?
[ He's probably directing this to like, Shoka or someone. RIP he has no idea who Kris is. ]
no subject
[... y'know what, maybe it's for the best that he asks someone other than Kris.]
sorry about him
[He's. This vulpix is not stopping is he. The legitimacy of this "advice" is particularly dubious since Sanji had never interacted with Noelle in person. In. Pokemon. But at least he's being sort of helpful doling out some snacks for those who don't have any packed! Trail mix and pastries loaded with nuts and berries, nothing super fancy...]

I apologize, but I don't believe we have met...?
[ whomst the fuck ]
HELP
off tracks-]
NO TIME FOR INTRODUCTIONS WHEN A LADY IS IN DANGER!!!
[Maybe it's the face Ingo is making. Maybe that was louder than he intended, and people are looking at him funny. Maybe he realizes he is Small and this Typhlosion could flatten him at a moment's notice. Either way, Sanji finally remembers himself. He takes a steadying breath, ruffled fur smoothing out.] Sorry. Sorry. I'm being stupid, that's not helping either. Name's Sanji, I'm just a cook. [Hence the shoving of snacks into your general vicinity. He seems to be just wanting to keep busy.] You?

[ That part's just automatic; it pops out while Ingo's still a little startled by the shouting, and the sudden shift in demeanor. ]
That does involve helping to find people lost in the wilderness, if need be. Though of course, that is far easier in my own territory...
[ He knows it well enough by now to guess at where people might end up. ]
BACKTAGS gomen (we can make this short I think?)
[How is that helpful?! Leave it to a pirate to be immediately prickly about this.
Territory....so of an area then. Maybe.] Riiiight. So you're more like a navigator then?

Something about the question Ingo asks her makes her shrink in on herself, eyes averted.]
Wish I knew...
[Her voice is small.]
Here's an idea: how 'bout you focus on how to find her first.

I do not mean to set myself as the authority here, but of course we must designate search areas for each group! Keeping the search organized is important, so that we can cover as much ground as possible! In this case...well, given the weather, she may have tried to take shelter. We should pay special attention to any shelter that can be seen from a distance - large rock outcroppings, groves of trees, things of that nature!
[ He doesn't say so, but this is why Noelle's state of mind is important. Ingo doesn't know if she did have her wits about her enough to seek shelter. Still, it's a decent starting point. ]
no subject
[She gives a slight incline of her disguise-head. Makes sense. She can do that. But still...]
To be honest, not sure how much she'd be thinking about taking shelter right now...
[Looking back on the last things Noelle said to her, she fears that Noelle might be seeking the exact opposite.]
cw: oblique suicidal ideation reference
[ He doesn't ask any further questions. People who go missing sometimes - well, there are other places to look out for instead, then. Bodies of water, the cliffs...
Ingo doesn't say so aloud. He'll handle it himself. Maybe try and tell Emmet. ]
In that case, we had best be off as soon as we can.
no subject
[That part is terse, but her voice has softened when she eventually continues.]
... Thanks. For helping. Maybe—it'll be enough that so many people are looking for her. And worrying about her. [Or maybe not. How many times did she try to tell Noelle herself that she was worried about her?] Sorry I can't... do more.
[She thought that she and Noelle were close. Now, she's not sure if she really knows Noelle at all.]

Hey. Does Miss Noelle have any favorites as far as food goes? The poor girl might be having a rough time of it out there, I wanna see if I can throw somethin' together that might...help?
[Being teleported to god knows where in Blue-damned unfamiliar bodies, can't hurt to eat something even a little familiar...]

... salad's fine. Vegetarian. [half-mumbled, in stark contrast to all the confidence and volume they had when going over the plan earlier.]
sorry work mc'killed the me. we can make this a quick interaction?
It passes anyway, and. Well. Tiredness is something he knows. And while his PRIMARY concern is Miss Noelle (she is a damsel!! In distress!! He cannot ignore such a thing and call himself a gentleman!!!) watching the pokemon before him...deflate like that. That's...it tugs on memories he'd rather forget. There's no way of knowing if it's the same (it's likely not!!) but...
They sound way too young to be so tired and quiet. He exhales slowly, then makes himself visibly perk up. (His tone is slightly softer, so as to make sure he's not talking over them.)] Got it! I'll put lots of berries in it to help her warm right up! It's fuckin' cold out here. Speaking of- [He rustles through his bags for a moment, then pulls out with his teeth some food wrapped in cloth, brandishing it in Kris's general direction.] Ma'e sure ya ea' shome.
[Plops them down at their feet gingerly, so no more talking with mouth full...] Dunno what you like but uh. Looks like you could use a quick bite if you're gonna be out here. Aspear jam filled pastries, good for energy and fightin' off cold and shit.
no worries!!
... is what they're thinking, until he drops a neat little bundle down in front of them. Something fruity and buttery and warm. They stare at it like a dog with a piece of meat.
Did they eat anything this morning? ... probably not. Despite this, they are exercising a frankly impressive degree of restraint. Like a very obedient dog with a piece of meat. Or maybe a dog on a tight leash that's keeping them from getting at their piece of meat. They tilt their gaze up at Sanji so they don't have to keep staring at it longingly.]
Thanks. [They are, unfortunately, going to try and pack this away for later.]
thank youuuu
And what's in front of him is some kid that won't eat, even if they clearly want to. And it pisses him off.] No problem. I'm a chef, I make sure the people around me aren't going hungry. And, no offense kid, but ya look like you could use a quick bite. There's more where that came from, you don't gotta pack it, sheesh. [Is it that they don't like being watched? Yeah it's awkward trying to eat with no hands, boy does he understand that, but something feels...more off than that. Something...really weird. It makes his fur stand a little on end.
Vulpine lips press in a thin line.] Listen. You won't be very helpful to Miss Noelle if you're starving. Just eat. It's really fine.

... None of his words seem to break that tension. They stare back at him blindly, still holding their neck in that same awkward position. Several more seconds pass before something in their expression seems to click.
Kris swings their head forward and drops the parcel back onto the ground. Then, without a single drop of shame, they instantly tear into the cloth like a crazed wild animal. The pastry is snapped up and devoured in a matter of seconds, after which they start chewing on the cloth wrapper. Hopefully he didn't want that part back.
They don't say anything (because they're still gnawing on the fruit stains in the fabric), but their tail is wagging hard. Sanji instantly promoted to their new favourite person.]

She knows of Kris (Noelle's mentioned them before, and Shoka's seen them around the Spire once or twice), but she's never actually talked to them. Now is as good a time as any, she guesses.]
... Hey. You're—Kris, right? [Dumb question. She already knows they are, and they probably mentioned their name themself at some point, too.] You... knew Noelle before all of this.
no subject
Neighbours. [is her one-word, monotone answer.]
no subject
[That's what Noelle said, too. Me, my sister, my neighbor Kris, and their older brother Asriel...]
She told me... you were there when Dess disappeared. She said she couldn't remember much about what happened, but... [Her eyes lift, searching (what she can see of) their face.] What about you?
1/2
[It comes out before she can finish asking, low and raspy and completely unlike their voice from five seconds ago. They almost sound like they might be angry (at her? at what happened?), jaw set tightly like they're in pain, like something could be...]
2/2
Doesn't matter. Not here.
[They still sound monotone, but... quieter? Somehow a little more "real"? It's hard to describe what was wrong with it before, but there's less of it.]
no subject
But the last time she talked to Noelle at any real length, it felt like they talked about nothing but Dess. If there's any chance at all that the two disappearances could be related somehow, shouldn't she ask? There's that, and also the way that Kris' reaction grates on her already frayed nerves. She stiffens, startled, before answering in a hiss.]
Well, too bad—
[And then, just like that, Kris' voice changes again. Shoka hesitates, trying to stop her own bristling.]
How do you know it "doesn't matter"?
