1. A city in bloom [Open, Skull Town]
With permission of the guild leaders, Umemiya's beginning his winter garden project out in Skull Town. While he isn't spending all his time at the garden, he does make regular trips out to see progress in tilling and planting and offer advice to those working in the garden. While he wishes Noelle were here to use Grassy Terrain and boost the growth of the plants, the old fashioned way will work fine, since the weather seems clement enough.

Perhaps you were planning on volunteering and come to meet the Lucario for marching orders. Or perhaps you're just wondering what's going on in this corner of the outpost. Either way, Umemiya greets any who approach him with a broad grin.

"Good weather for this work, don't you think?"


2. A city with that adapts to survive [Open, The Spire]
Umemiya makes himself busy around the guild's space when he isn't out at Skull Town or off on a quest. He's glad to help with cooking meals for the dining hall, and when he partakes of food he's likely to approach someone and ask to sit by them. After all, he's always been a warm extroverted soul, interested in building community.

And of course, he can also be found in the training rooms, working to try to learn some new moves, because he's realized there's types he doesn't have a particularly good answer to. Up for sparring?


3. A little morе room [Closed to Need, Woodn't You Like]
The idea of going out for a walk in the forest and gathering wood is almost a break from everything else Umemiya has on his plate. He meets Need out at the edge of the woods, ears perked and tail already doing a slow wag.

"So, we just get a bunch of deadwood and dry branches and bring them back to town? Seems about as simple as it gets."


4. For underdogs and misfits to thrive [Wildcard]
Find me wherever Solstices are sold at darkersolstice to plot, or just come at me with something random. I have faith in you! You're amazing and your hair looks really nice today!!

Do you need a rubber duck?

[He's not sure the term would have survived to her time, and honestly he doesn't fully understand why Mizuki sometimes asks him to sit there and be a rubber duck while he explains some computer bullshit that flies over Umemiya's head until he suddenly reaches a breakthrough, but at the very least, it's probably polite of him to announce his presence before sitting down.]

So if it fil-- [ her head abruptly snaps upright at umemiya, awkwardly ripping another part of her bread off with her teeth ] Hi! Uh. Not sure if that's a part I'd need.

[ she's familiar enough with random little earth things the captain brings up sometimes, but she seems to have missed what umemiya is saying anyway. she finally tears the bread, chews, and swallows. ] You wanna sit down?

So long as it won't bug you. You look like you're thinking very hard.

[Umemiya is careful not to set his tray down on her schematics.]

What are you trying to plan out, here?

[ she sets down her pencil to turn the paper towards umemiya, which probably doesn't make it any more comprehensible to him than when it was angled towards her. ] Water pump for the tunnels. Mightyena's got me working out a solution to the flooding problem so people don't have to sleep in drenched beds or be at risk of drowning.

[ parvati, as she says this, pulls her plate closer to her and begins to chow down a little more on her lunch. ] I've never actually worked with this sort of thing before, so I'm mostly groping in the dark, but I'm getting closer. Hopefully.

Wow, that's not an easy task to take on. So...how are you going to pull it off? Run a pump on the energy of electric types?

[He's not sure how well that'd work, but he hasn't seen a standard power plant around either.]

That's where I'm stuck. I've figured out what materials I'd need, for the most part. But I think I could get it running on its own using the water as a power source.

[ besides, relying solely on electric types 24/7 was pretty risky and pretty unfair. better to have some kind of analogue plan. ] It's pretty easy to get a machine working once all of the cogs're in place.

Maybe there's a waterfall somewhere that can turn a wheel, something?

[He gestures loosely with his spoon for a moment before digging into his stew.]

[ she blinks, before her eyes go wide. somehow, somehow, she hadn't thought of that! ] I'll have to look for something like that! Maybe that's just the ticket I need!

[ she's already spun the paper back towards herself and is scribbling down a note in the corner. ]

Excellent! Oh, and if you end up needing help moving material or building, I know a Fighting type who might be willing to volunteer.

[The fighting type is him. He's the fighting type.]

D'aww, thank you. Still need to run this by Mightyena and properly make sure there's enough space. The last thing I want is to accidentally take out a load bearing wall. [ she glances over at him with a smile, rolling up her paper and dropping it on the floor next to her seat with a quiet clunk! parvati then finally gets back to eating her food. ]

What have you been up to?

Me? Planning the winter garden for Skull Town, prepping for a way finding mission with a couple other Oran boys--have you met Ren and Akechi? They're very much a bonded pair, do not separate situation.

[But he's fond of them and that comes out in the tone of his voice.]

Oh, that was you? [ her head tilts to the side a little as she says this, lifting more food into her mouth. ] Must've missed that on the quest board. Heh. Might be heading out there soon-ish.

I've met Akechi, but I don't think I've met Ren. "Do not separate"... [ she snorts a little after repeating that. ] Cute. And lucky.

Ren's a little green cat, you can't miss him. I they arrived from the same world and have a lot of history there. Sometimes I wonder if I'd rather have someone from home here with me, too.

[edgewater]

Does it get that lonely without 'em?

[ her mind does wander back to the crew of the unreliable, and junlei. it's not been very long since she arrived and she does miss home quite a bit, hence the almost zealous dedication to the task mightyena gave her. her heart pangs in her chest. ]

Little green cat? [ she's trying to distract herself by focusing on the fact that she doesn't. know what a cat is. ]

Cat. Uh. Small four-legged creature with triangular ears and a tail.

[Practical before emotional, but this isn't entirely a dodge of the nosier question. He's getting back to it.]

I'm not lonely, exactly. But sometimes I'm homesick. I see a dress in a shop and think that my friend Tsubaki would look good in it. Hear music and think Kaji would rock out to it. I wish I could bring recipes home to my sister, Kotoha.

I feel that. It's weird not having any of my crew to talk to anymore. [ you spend so long in such close quarters with a group of people and they become almost like family to you. she would've wanted to keep in touch when the adventure ended, if she could. ]

I guess I still have people like you to bounce ideas off of, but... [ she pauses to eat more food, realising she's once again neglected it for a couple of minutes. ] I dunno. I'm used to waking up to hearing a couple of the guys cheering about Tossball scores, or to some new adventure our Captain's gonna take us on. I feel a little stuck, being back on just one planet.

There's plenty of adventures to be found here. Going out on wayfinding quests and rescues? Negotiating with the locals who live out in the wild?

You just need to volunteer yourself.

I've been trying! I'm glad to be of help. Might as well. I'm no use to anyone if I don't. [ it's also a great way to avoid being alone with her thoughts. though she's still not quite used to the amount of free time she's gotten. ]

But. Yeah. [ she kicks her tiny tinkaton legs a little. ] I'm hoping I can use my experience to do good here, is what I'm saying. It'd be a huge waste not to.

[ she gestures slightly to her plans. ] Like with what Mightyena'a got me doing. Might even head out to your garden -- not really done that sort of stuff before, at least not myself. That sort of thing just doesn't happen in Halcyon very much.

Hey, Pavarti? Do you often worry about what use you are to people?

H-huh? What?

[ what kind of question is that? granted, it's been less of an issue for her in the grand scheme of the whole. pseudo-space-piracy-having-friends-thing, but when put back into a place where she barely knows people? ]

I mean, I kind of have to be able to do my job in order to stick around. Sooo. [ she tries to cover this up with an awkward laugh. ]

Well. I mean, is your self-worth wrapped up in your utility? That can be...kinda bad for your mental health and self-esteem in the long run, you know?

[Surprise, this teenage boy has emotional awareness and is thinking about the mental health of those around him.]

[ parvati looks a little surprised at that, before relaxing back into what she was before. trying to be a bit more nonchalant. and trying to work out what those words mean when you say them in that order ]

I wouldn't say that. That's just how it is, where I'm from. Or, well. That's what my Captain is-- was?-- trying to fix.

[ it's hard to break out of an abusive hypercapitalist school of thought when it's all you've ever known, even if parvati herself doesn't agree with it. ] I don't wanna lose what I have here so soon. I've seen that happen to good folk, Umemiya. It's awful.

[He wishes that he could reassure her that not always being on duty, not always being on top of things, not always being useful won't lose her her place in this society.

But. The guild tallies points and awards better housing for those who do more. She isn't completely wrong to worry about needing to prove herself. Which sucks, and isn't how everything ought to be.]

We can fix it here, too, maybe. I just don't want you to burn out.

Oh. Burnout? [ that's literally not a problem that's really occured to her, halcyon's got a myriad of other much worse issues. ] You don't have to worry about that. I've been working for a long time, and it's been... easier, here.

[ not that this has stopped her from working on her own time -- see her schematics during lunch -- but she's not exactly used to having all of that time. long, gruelling hours with an eight hour break to eat and sleep is what she was used to before. and then more unpredictable adventuring hours, but those were fun and different and didn't always involve her. ] You seem very sure of that. Heh. Like if the old man wasn't a little crazy.
