[closed] the sun refusing to accept the humans
Who: Archnemon, Ingo, Emmet
What: Wayfinding: Icefall Lake
When: early-mid Octoberish
Where: (the mountain pass leading up to the cave system around) the Mountain's Heart
Warnings: To be added if they come up
[ They've been through here before, at least. Ingo and Emmet have, at least; the Zoroark isn't sure about Archnemon. It becomes very clear when the directions they were given have them head up and through a semi-familiar mountain pass, covered in deep snow, avalanche risk high. It'll eventually take them to the cave system where Bidoof had lost consciousness in front of their singing tree, and then needed to be rescued.
Right. So. Familiar tracks at least. Albeit slightly, uncomfortably quiet ones given the avalanche hazard ... but given who else is traveling with them Emmet takes care to stifle any stray threads of disquiet whenever they crop up. Outside of the risk of setting off something they shouldn't, however, this part of the trip is the easier one: there's not as much they need to strictly map when the geography of the pass itself, mountains framing them on either side, means there's really only one route through it, though Emmet cranes his neck upwards to take note of what looks to him like a few more precarious-looking sections of snowpack higher up on the peaks every now and then. He'd like to ask to confirm, really, but Ingo has been verrrrry quiet, for him, uncharacteristically and what would be rather concerningly so if it weren't for the conditions they're in. As for Archnemon...
Maybe they'll all just have to compare notes once they make it past the snowdrifts and out of inclement weather. It's even colder here than it was just one or two months ago, after all, what with the changing season. His thicker winter coat, the extra fur around his paws, and a number of other adaptations that or less just sum up to good insulation keep him more or less at an adequate temperature, but he's not so sure about how well the layers the Hatenna's bundled up in are holding up against the biting wind this high up in the mountains, nevermind the snow threatening hail.
Which probably shows, really, in how often he glances toward the other two with him as if to check on them. ]

As for the cold... she really would like to say it doesn't bother her anyway, she's not particularly weak to it but she's also not immune to it. Why do humans find this cold wet gunk pretty? But it's easier when having a task to do. After all, she even willingly chose to come here, with a skilled team...
... This part though, leaving them unable to communicate unless they want to make themselves vulnerable, she's also been considering. She does not particularly care for the network, with her sensitivities, but it's because of those sensitivities that she realizes they may be able to utilize it to an advantage. Particularly after some time of navigating like this... they're making it work, and there's not too much variance here aside scanning for the larger landmarks that aren't covered up, or uncovered pitfalls by previous groups...
As for Emmet, in particular, she doesn't catch all of his glances toward her, but she can feel something shift occasionally, in that energy vibe he exudes. There's quiet but there's also... disquiet, which makes her start thinking, to her own chagrin, but it's needed: Do they even have those pearls with them? On them, in some capacity? Being a psychic type, it doesn't take too much for her to sense her own, to try and focus, filter out any unnecessary chatter that might be going on, don't mind her Grumpig brothers she has another pair in mind...
Though this might take a little more effort on her part to maintain...
Ring, ring, If they choose to accept the connection, her message relays thusly, 'It should only be us here, but it may make things a little more convenient, right?' ]

The more he talks, the more likely he will lose focus. So. Better to just not speak unless needed.
Keeping silent means dwelling on it, though, and Ingo's never quite settled his own frustration with himself for not being able to reliably perform such a basic task as be quiet. So there's a spike of very definite relief when his pearl, tucked away in his pack, activates. ]
Ah!
[ No wait! Silent! Thoughts only! This is also not easy, perhaps just because he isn't a psychic-type, but it's doable. ]
That is an excellent idea! Thank you, Archnemon!

Convenient, yes! It won't be too much?
[ Not too distracting to maintain? ]

The theory did seem to be holding, the reality was that she would have to continue to bridge this in some way. And then keep multitasking... should be fine. ]
Right now, it's currently reasonable. Not indefinite, of course... but for now, we should utilize our advantage.
[ Now if she'd only speak up about it being colder than the last time she was here... but that's mind over matter, right... ]

[ It cheers him up rather more than he might have expected! Though he can tell it's colder, he's a fire-type from a similarly cold climate. Northern Typhlosion have shaggier coats and give off quite a bit of their own heat, so the silence really has been the least pleasant part of this journey for him so far.
He doubts it's the same for all of them, though. ]
How are we all faring?
[ Though it's posed to them both, Archnemon's the one he turns to look at. ]

[ Said casually, how you please; Emmet also isn't the one Emmet is most concerned about. He will not add to the scrutiny Archnemon is under since Ingo's already got that handled, so the Zoroark keeps his gaze steadily ahead as they make their way through the snow. ]
Technically this is not even the part we were directed to map. That is farther ahead still. If the weather does become [ more of ] a problem, we could hasten to that destination?
[ Not singling anyone out, just putting it out there. ]
no subject
Still she understands these are valid points. The weather could easily become more of a problem within any number of moments they would spend considering it. ]
... Then, if we want to prioritize getting to the entrance before the weather changes, would it be quicker if one of you were to... assist me until we get inside?
[ Getting through this area would at least help preserve any more energy she might need for the later part of their mapping. If this part was not the priority. Seemed ... reasonable. ]

[ Either or. Emmet carried Emporio the last time, so it seems only fair that Ingo take a turn! But also, he will not push her! ]

[ More cover from the wind and snow at the cost of some vision, or having the wind chill still but also reaping the benefits of being in close proximity to An Actual Fire-type as well as being able to keep better track of one's surroundings? ]
no subject
[ It's not too much of a pause to consider; both have their benefits, and there's a whole way to go through this yet... practicality wins out over any potential for indignity, at least. She can't help that she is tiny in this case.
... And it's kind of. Nice? That they both offer in such a way. Endearing? ]
Let's see... all things considered, if you don't mind, Ingo-san, steady warmth might be more of a benefit at this time.
[ Unless something were to occur such as if the weather conditions changed abruptly, they might have to reassess, but that was always a factor. ]
no subject
Very well! All aboard!
[ He'll come over and bend down to (hopefully?) let her climb up onto his back. If she needs help getting up, he can...maybe aid? It's limited without hands. ]
no subject
Just remember not to set her on fire.
[ That's a joke, but hey. ]
no subject
Luckily, she has a bit of practice with this sort of thing by now, (thanks in part to Anasui) as she made understanding her own mobility a priority. It's the wind that's an issue, but with enough focus she can get her bearings to carefully scramble up around any visible flames to climb up onto his head like a hat. Or onto his hat if he had procured one. ]
And watch out for low-hanging branches, please...
no subject
Of course!
[ Ingo will duly lower his head as he starts trudging forward again, even though they aren't remotely near any trees at all. He tends to radiate heat already, being a fire-type, but he'll also keep his actual flames burning lowly. They agreed to make for the entrance, though, so he'll move a bit faster now. His improved mood from being able to talk again certainly don't hurt. ]
Full steam ahead!
no subject
This line is non-stop until we reach our destination!
[ Happily for Archnemon, the threads of disquiet have also eased somewhat now that it's clear everyone's fine, or will be once they get into the mountain tunnels proper. ]

... Barring any sudden weather complications. The weather is an almost deceptively calm despite the wind for any storm that could easily brew up before they're to safety. But those are much darker clouds starting to move in, and in that same direction the wind currently is blowing, from a westerly angle... ]
Conductor, there's a weather shift on the way...
[ Unfortunately her abilities aren't enough to let her determine what kind this early, but she trusts they have experience in these matters. ]
no subject
More snow. Let us make for the tunnels!
[ Fortunately, they've been making quite good time. The dark mouth of one of the caverns is in sight; they should have plenty of time to make it inside! The snowstorms here tend to be over with quickly, so they ought to be able to make their return trip once they've done some tunnel mapping! ]
