[open mingle log] stargazing club meteor shower!

WHO: Flowey & the Stargazing Club (and any other interested parties)
WHAT: Viewing a meteor shower during a clear evening
WHEN: Early December
WHERE: A big hilltop picnic
WARNINGS: None (will change if any come up)

are you a star?

a. gathering

[Togetic- something of a figurehead for the hobby clubs and an overall advocate for relaxation- has been spreading the word! A meteor shower will be visible tonight! Everyone who's interested should gather up on Lookout Hill for the clearest viewing experience!

It is terribly cold lately, of course, especially at night. When Pokemon begin to arrive on the hilltop, they'll find chairs, blankets, and a kettle for serving hot drinks. Some Pokemon are huddling together to stay warm or just to be comfortable before the meteor shower begins!

Any Pokemon who were already here on this nice, quiet spot overlooking the city will soon find it's beginning to get just a bit quiet. At least there are other spots a bit further away that might offer more privacy...?

It's also a bit of a climb up the hill. Togetic and a few other winged Pokemon are escorting smaller ones up the hill-- though Flowey, stubborn as ever, notably refuses.
]

b. star light, star bright

[The sky is clear and unclouded. A tapestry of stars is visible overhead. Some Pokemon are pointing out visible constellations. Though, sometimes if you look away, the stars might be just a little different than you remember. How odd...

A few others are setting up telescopes. If you want to use one, maybe you can even see other celestial bodies-- though you might be interrupted by Minior playing in the atmosphere.

All of a sudden, some Pokemon cry out in surprise. Is that a Minior, too...? No, it's the first shooting star of the night! Make a wish!
]

c. shining with hope

[The meteor shower has begun in full. Streaks of light cascade across the heavens. Pokemon of all shapes and sizes gaze enraptured towards the sky.

Although... that one is awfully large, isn't it? And it's getting closer! A few Pokemon run in panic!

Fortunately, the falling star is actually too small to hurt anyone. It simply 'thunks' down in a snow bank. Togetic extracts a rather large Moon Stone. They and other Pokemon decide to take it to the Lum Guild for study.

However, other resourceful Pokemon might be able to gather Stardust, entire Star Pieces, or even fragments of Moon Stone! While the former don't have a use and the latter are much too small to be used for evolution, at least they're pretty. Some Pokemon begin talking about making accessories or decorations from them.
]

d. farewell

[Soon, the meteor shower comes to an end. Some Pokemon decide to stick around longer, but many begin to make their way towards their homes-- and their warm beds.

Flowey remains behind, still staring up at the sky. He's been... unusually cooperative and quiet tonight.

If you draw near, he doesn't quite look at you.
] ... what a show.

[Or, maybe you're also lingering in silence. Finally, he might approach you.] Not heading home yet? Aren't you cold?

e. wildcard approaching

[Wildcard option. Feel free to make your own prompt here or throw something at Flowey, or message me on plurk at [plurk.com profile] friendlyflower

As a note, feel free to use the Togetic NPC if you want to in these threads. Just assume they're a helpful character who wants everyone to have fun and enjoy the meteor shower.

Really? That's fascinating.

[ Is it really common knowledge? She...doesn't think she's heard anyone but Siffrin really mention the stars much. Maybe Isabeau, who she knows got it from them anyway. ]

How was that discovered?

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-09 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm not actually sure.

[ she shrugs, taking another sip of her drink. ] Not really in my ballpark, but it's somethin' about how they generate energy and how fast light travels across large distances.
paperceptive: (πŸ“– ?)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-09 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...hm.

[ She reaches for the pouch slung across her body, pulling out her journal. It's awfully dark here for trying to write anything down, and she nearly gives up without even trying...but the oddities here still nag at her, so she scrawls down a quick note, squinting down her muzzle. ]

That's not a field of study in my world at all.
edgewater: (looking away)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-09 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I come from a world further in the future than anyone else here, so that ain't surprising.

[ she tries to catch a look at the note odile is scrawling before giving up when she realises it's a bit too dark, continuing to sip her drink. ]

But does your world not have astronomy at all? No constellations or anything...?
paperceptive: (πŸ“– analysis)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
No...I don't think so...

[ Is there something? Maybe there's a constellation or two she's forgotten...? ]

Siffrin's mentioned stars before, though. Maybe it's different...wherever they're from.
loopsiedaisy: (πŸ” Andβ€…though you're away)

not here please continue

[Somewhere else on the hill, their ear is twitching.]

[...]

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Well, it means you get to learn the ones here! Maybe the Archives have something about it you can bring along next time..?

[ she tilts her head to the side as she says this. ]

Or you could ask Siffrin. Or both.

paperceptive: (πŸ“– uncertainty)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ She'd like to see you get a straight answer on anything out of Siffrin!

But even Odile won't actually say that aloud with Siffrin like, three feet away. ]

I'll have to add it to the list. I've been researching local legends primarily.
edgewater: (o_o)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-11 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, you find anything interesting from that?

[ she'd be lying if she said she wasn't interested, but the archive's layout gave her such a headache. see, this isn't a problem with computers unless you're a special case of bad with them. ]
paperceptive: (πŸ“– consideration)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-11 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a number of beings who may be able to interfere with time - the way that might be happening to rescued Pokemon like Furfrou. But nothing that would point to any of them in particular...

[ And, legends being what they are, her information may not be entirely correct. Back home, she would know what was believable and not; here it's a bit more up in the air. ]

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-12 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You spoken with Akechi about that yet? He's all over that stuff right now. [ to a degree parvati finds concerning but hey, if it helps. ]
paperceptive: (πŸ“– making a note)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-13 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes - mostly with him, as a matter of fact. I'm glad someone like him was among the first.

[ Nothing against the other new arrivals per se, but Akechi is observant and methodical, and she trusts his information. ]
edgewater: (converse)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-13 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. He knows what he's talking about to some extent. [ his incessant need to start twitter levels of discourse on the network aside. that was one time. ] Anything interesting come outta that?
paperceptive: (πŸ“– commentary)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ That was annoying, but also sort of fascinating to observe? Odile's not entirely against it. Let the youth be foolish, or whatever. ]

The history of the Guilds seems rather odd, especially considering there's unexplained records here that may refer to them. They seem entirely founded around exploration, yet they only began to explore the forest once we all arrived - doesn't that seem strange?
edgewater: (grumpy)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-14 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Heard some people say we could be chosen ones or something, but I'm not sure if I believe in that crap. Not like that, anyway. [ they were definitely chosen for something, but that view just feels entirely self centred when put the way it has been. ] But, yeah. I was never really allowed to venture out despite my home being pretty similar until I met my Captain, though. Maybe we're like that.

[ she doesn't think the idea of everyone from another world being an unplanned variable is all that likely, though. ]
paperceptive: (πŸ“– ..........)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-15 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ Odile grimaces. They obviously were chosen by something, but she doesn't like to think of it as...what? A god? ]

Perhaps. Regardless, I do find the historical records here to be...lacking, mostly. Where they aren't that, they're just strange.
edgewater: (looking away)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-15 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone here, uh. Actually know how long the Pokemon have been settled here? Like, in the Bay? [ obviously there'd be no direct answers for the ruins out in the wilds -- unless that was what was in polteageist's stuff but that's another question entirely -- but here? how long had they been here? cheri didn't have roofs and oran still flooded when she got here, yet the town is built up as though its been here for decades. was that all lum's doing, given their status as the nicest one to live in? ]

Since a lot of things don't really add up about it. I mean. Like the guild buildings seemingly being unfinished despite having been here for years, and the way the town is built up implies... so much time.
paperceptive: (πŸ“– commentary)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-15 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It really doesn't seem that they do. Which is strange in and of itself.

[ Even if their record-keeping was poor (which it doesn't seem to be, at least not that much), you'd expect some of the older Pokemon to know stories from past generations. Stories about where they originally came from and how they came to be here. That sort of thing is so common. ]
edgewater: (converse)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-15 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been bugging the crap outta me since I got here, I'll be honest.

[ is it a weird case of last thursdayism or something more? that's what she wonders. but that's also the kind of stuff someone much more engaged with philosophy than her would actually want to argue, it's not the kind of stuff she's ever seriously believed in. ]

If the stars are dead worlds, you reckon there's, uh. Constellations? I dunno if it'd translate here, but back on Earth I heard a lot of 'em tended to be related to some kind of ancient story of some sort. Maybe the Pokemon here have something like that...? Might help with your search, in any case. [ plus it gives odile an excuse to look into that. for funsies. ]
paperceptive: (πŸ“– sad)

[personal profile] paperceptive 2025-12-16 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Constellations...

[ The word takes her a moment to place, even though this is probably not the first time tonight it's come up. What is wrong with her today...? ]

I'll write that down, yes.
edgewater: (Bwuh)

[personal profile] edgewater 2025-12-17 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ parvati goes back to her drink. ]

I hope you find what you're looking for.
