[ she rests her hands between her legs and picks up a few of them. ]

Well, I was thinking I could make some chains. They probably won't be great, but if I wanna branch out, I gotta practice. [ she has the basic idea. hopefully. ] Maybe some spikes. I dunno. That seems to be it.

Yeah, I know. Doesn't make them any less big to me.

[ What he actually means to say intimidating, but he has just enough pride not to. His face scrunches slightly. ]

... Chains? Like a necklace? [ Figuring out fashion is so hard. ] That makes sense. I guess. [ His head tilts at her. ]

So how do we get started?

[ she holds up a pair of pliers. ] Shouldn't be too hard with these.

[ her gaze flickers back to her tools. she only has one pair. erm. ]

[ He looks at her, looks at the tools, then looks back at her. ]

So I take it you want me to hold things steady then. [ He folds his arms. ] You know how those work, right?

[ He's fine with getting bonked on the head, but losing a finger isn't on his bingo card. ]

[ parvati shoots him a look(tm). ]

I think you forget that using these tools has been my job for years. I gotta have steady hands.

Yeah, but those— [ Pointing. With his thumb. For emphasis. ] —aren't your normal hands. I'm just making sure.

[ she begins to start bending the small pieces of metal. ]

Low blow, Parvati. [ Don’t mind him looking over his paws. ] At least I can still hold things. That’s more than most people can say around here.

[ Not that he wasn’t fine without hands before... ]

[ can anyone else boast that? she shakes her head. ]

[ she doesn't tease people very often let her have this. she looks over the tools in her hands at the pile of fabric, and then glances at her metal. ] How good are you at sewing?

[wolfcut]

[ He will be going as long as he can without addressing them, thanks. ]

Oh. [ Ears slowly perking up. ] Pretty decent. I’ve been practicing. [ Really leaning into the grandma aesthetic. ]

Mostly just fixing things, but I’ve made a few toys and pillows at this point.

[ So that’s helpful? Maybe? ]

[ she slides her box of metal bits over. ]

Can you figure out something with that and the fabric? Pretty sure stuff like this comes in sets.

Like, accessories? I can try.

[ He starts to dig through the box for some ideas. ]

Could probably make some bracelets to put these on. Maybe even a headband.

[ That's as far as his fashion knowledge goes. ]

[ it's still more than hers. she hooks another ring onto the chain. ] ]

I hope she'll like it. You know her better than me.

Yeah, well. She’s never mentioned liking this stuff before.

[ He knows she likes the holidays and baking sweets, but also that there’s parts of her she doesn’t know how to reconcile for herself. Bigby turns back to the other materials, picking up a few pieces of fabric along with a needle and thread. ]

Is... is that bad? That I didn’t know?

[ Not for a lack of wondering, but prying while she’s still just figuring herself out feels wrong. But maybe he did a bigger disservice by not asking. Then again, he could have just wound up embarrassing her again somehow. He sighs under his breath, ultimately just frustrated at himself. Why is this so hard. ]

I don't think so. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't like you've actually known her for that long.

[ there's only so much you can learn about a person in a year. even in the time she spent close-quarters with her crew she wouldn't claim to know all of the intricacies of their interests. it'd only been a few months.

she tilts her head to the side, tongue stuck out in concentration. ]

Don't beat yourself up about it.

A year can be a long time for a kid. [ Especially one he's assuming is playing by mundy rules. ] But, yeah. You're right.

[ He's eyeballing the fabric first, trying to measure it out in his head, before snipping it with his big rodent teeth. ]

So. [ His head tilts. ] Gonna tell me what secret things you like so I can be prepared for the holidays?

[ Absolutely he has to start shopping this early. ]

My birthday is sooner than any of the holidays. [ she almost chuckles at the thought. it's barely spring and here he is preparing for winter. ]

But, uh. There ain't much you don't know.

[ she's a simple creature, really. ]

I guess I'm getting into more of the artsy stuff. [ she gestures, pliers in hand, at some of the plant pots dotted around. ]

[ The rodent instincts go deeper than even he realizes now. ]

Your birthday. [ Somehow he always forgets about those. ] Right. Yeah.

[ Needle threaded, he starts to sew the edges together, only pausing to glance where Parvati is pointing. ]

So more clay. That should be a little easier than a fashion statement.

[ parvati leans over to sneak a look at what he's doing. yeah, she probably couldn't be doing that. good call. ] You don't have to get me anything, it's fine.

[ it'd be nice but she isn't that used to it to begin with. ]

You could at least tell me what you'd want, too. [ or she's gonna make him another, less crappy mug. might even be glazed this time. ]

I don't have to, but I'd like to.

[ Because that's a thing friends do. Even he, lone wolf that he is, knows that. ]

I'll make it easy for you though. I don't do birthdays. [ He does grin at her, regardless of how that cheeky retort lands. ] The only thing I can think of wouldn't be for me anyway. Not sure if that counts.

not even asking her when her birthday is. Classic.

[ even if it's not for him she desperately wants to know. she leans forward a little for emphasis. ]

Hm. [ He finishes sewing up the piece he's working on first. ] Something for a few of the kids here.

[ It's a good thing his cheeks are perma-pink because he'd definitely be blushing. Maybe it's too silly, but he clears his throat anyway. ]

... Just little deputy badges with their names on it. Or something like that anyway.
