Laios nods at Firoza's direction, following her suggestion without much hesitation. Head lowered, he walks ahead cautiously, still unsure of what actually might be in store. ]

It's so quiet around here. [ His ears twitch, trying to catch the sound of any movement. ] If the mushrooms are causing strange behavior, I wonder if they scared most of the wild Pokémon off. [ A beat. ] Or the Pokémon all scared off each other.

Maybe a mix of both?

[Creeps cautiously forward, checking where she steps in case there's an errant mushroom that she doesn't want to step on. It'd be like one of those puffball mushrooms, fwoom]

But 'tis eerie, the lack of sound...let's make haste and collect what we can.

It's a little disappointing. [ That probably doesn't sound right. Let him rephrase. ] I mean, just knowing how badly these shrooms are affecting everything. [ Not much better, but he treads carefully with her, pressing his snout low to the ground.

He stops briefly to lift his head, one paw digging at the ground. ] Look at that! Something sprouted here. [ His head tilts at Firoza, before looking back at the small shroom. ] It's... not an edible one is it?

Hm? Let me see...

[Gonna take a look at it and give it a delicate, tentative sniff.]

Hn...it's not like those others, but...I'm not sure if it's edible. I haven't seen a mushroom like this before.

[Watch it just be a Morelull vibing in the dirt.]

[ He paws at it once Firoza finishes her inspection. ]

... It’s a really strange color, too. [ Almost pinkish, now that he really looks at it. Interesting. ] That wasn’t how Dr. Denne described the ones we need, right?

[ And right on cue, a root suddenly breaks through the surface, wrapping itself around his paw. ] Uh? [ He can’t. Pull free. What was that about a possible Morelull. ]

Ah-!

[Firoza jumps, not expecting the attack - and then jumps to action, reaching out to Scratch at the base of the root that has nabbed Laios. It hits more dirt than root, but whatever's down there seems to make a frustrated noise and begin wriggling. Whether it lets go of Laios or not is the question...]

[ As Firoza goes in for a Scratch, Laios pulls a bit harder, hoping to make the root easier to hit when taut. It lands easily enough, forcing it to lessen its grip as it wriggles in response. He’s not entirely free, but it gives him room to lean in for a Bite.

A strange rumble follows after his teeth sink in, and the root snaps right in his mouth. With that, the little bit of the mushroom sticking out of the ground seems to bury itself deeper, no longer in view. Immediately, Laios spits the root out, much more sensitive to the bitterness than he remembers being. ]

... Hn. I guess that wasn’t it. Let’s hope there’s not more of those around? [ He would like to see them, eventually, but, priorities. ] I’ll try to avoid that scent for now, at least!

Well, we know for the future. Are you alright?

[She can't even cast Clemency if he needs it this is bullshit]

Hm. [ He lifts up his paw. It does look a little irritated, now that he’s looking at it, but he nods regardless. ] It’s not so bad! Maybe just a bit itchy, but I don’t think it used any attacks.

[ Suddenly, he has to resist the urge to bite on it, instead stomping it back down on the ground a couple of time. ] It’s almost like, ah, poison ivy? How interesting...

[Firoza bristles!]

I hope it isn't poison anything...but it could be some other sort of irritant. What were the other kinds...it doesn't sound like paralysis, but mayhap a burn? A flameless burn.

[ He should probably be a little more phased, considering he has no idea if it is actually a burn or otherwise. Still, he can't help but offer Firoza a soft smile over her concern. ]

Don't worry, Firoza. I promise I'm fine! [ His tail wags too, for good measure. ] A burn from what has to be a grass-type... that would be something, though! [ He sounds way more excited than he should be about that, though he does extend his paw toward her. ]

What do you think? Does it look bad?

It isn't impossible. I think there's something within plants that are spicy that can burn oneself, if used in excess. [Thinks back to Zero and her penchant for kick-yo-ass-hot levels of curry, even for native Hannish. Gods, she misses her. Let her work with Golbez on the Thirteenth proceed apace.

She takes a look at Laios's paw...the marks where he was touched do look irritated, but there's no blood or boils.] Hm...I think...so long as you take care on the way back, and get examined at the clinic, you ought to be fine. But if anything changes then we should return immediately.

[What she wouldn't give for someone with Esuna right now.]

[ He muses curiously at the thought. Spice is a form of deterrent, after all; who's to say a Grass‐type wouldn't use that to their advantage? ]

You know... I haven't really been able to enjoy spicy foods as much. Not that I was able to tolerate a lot before, but I could be more sensitive now. [ His nose twitches as the taste of a Figby Berry comes to mind. ]

O-oh, but — I'll be more careful! [ His ears inmediately flatten at the idea of returning. Not that he doesn't appreciate her concern, but leaving an adventure so soon does make him some sort of way. ] I've definitely had worse reactions to plants. Full on swelling, actually. I'm sure you've dealt with something similar!

[ He puts his paw back down tenderly, ready to get moving again. ] I do still smell something this way, though. Hopefully it's not too far now.

... That's an allergic reaction. You recovered afterwards, yes?

[It would be like being hit with a Morbol's stench, probably...status ailments abounding. Eugh.

But he seems fine to continue...Firoza nods.] Alright. Let's proceed.

Heh. Of course. All it took was removing the barbs and some healing magic. [ Casually said, as if that wasn't a whole process in it of itself. ]

The ivy tentacles that did that... they can actually cause paralysis, but they only managed to get parts of my face. I wonder if I'd be immune to them now, actually... [ Anyway, onward to the actual mushrooms!

Though, he can't help but wonder: ] Did you have any similar plants back home, Firoza? You seem pretty familiar yourself.

Seedkin that can cause afflictions of all sorts are an entire, um...there's a big word for it that I can't quite recall. It's similar to a volume in a series of tomes, perhaps? There's many of them, is what I'm saying. As diverse as any beasts that walk the land.

[But she pauses and thinks on the idea of tentacles, specifically.] What you described made me think of Morbols, instinctively - but there are smaller creatures with tentacles that are essentially plants and can expel toxins and irritants. They have several names, but where I was most recently, they were called "flying popotoes".
