APRIL 2025 EVENT LOG

⋆✩ SPRING FLING ✩⋆

The sun rises, and a gentle breeze blows. A day like any other arrives in Bottlecap Bay, and for many of the pokemon that so recently arrived it is a now familiar process. Members of the various guilds flock to the Quest Board, in search of tasks to better provide for the town. Others, maintaining businesses of their own within the small settlement, start to open their doors for another day of work.

There is something different about this day however, and it is a difference that defines the next number of them. There is never truly a dull moment here after all, and it’s time to get involved.

DONATION DRIVE

As spring fully settles into the bay, the clinic begins to advertise for additional activities on the Quest Board. A call for donors is made- but donors of what? Pokemon arriving in response to the request will find that answer to mean “anything and everything that can be given” - along with potential medical samples to help with further research into the mysterious illness, there are a great many things that can be made from shed feathers, brushed-out undercoat or trimmed horns and claws.

Or even sweat, alarming as that may seem.

Those willing will be given small interviews in which they determine what to donate, and after the process (however involved), be given a small boxed treat as compensation. And of course, they’ll record the contributions with their guild leaders too!

⟡ WHAT NOW?

Donated materials can be used for a great many things, and throughout the later half of April local businesses will be happily showing their relevant crafts off. Pokemon are invited to try their hand at sewing satchels made using Spinarak threads, spinning yarn from Stufful fur, or stuffing pillows with Ducklett down- and perhaps if they donated anything themselves, they can even make something of their own.

Literally.

NO “I” IN TEAM

With the need to re-evaluate the results of recent expeditions through the surrounding forest before making the move to branch out further, the leaders of the three guilds have come together with some training exercises to better pass the time. Rather than sit and wait between tasks determined by the quest board, the last weeks of April see various events hosted through the city with one goal in mind:

Team Building.

A. ⟡ SHOW-AND-TELL

As part of an effort to encourage understanding and community, the Guilds each host various meet-and-greets in their personal buildings- or in the case of the Lum Guild, the public Archives. It’s a chance for pokemon to show each other where they sleep and eat, to share a little of their lives with their fellows from other guilds.

There are also more awkward sharing activities- tossing a ball in a circle and giving a fact about oneself. Tying each other limb to limb and performing races. Or even gift exchanges with the donor crafts! Nothing says community like a present from the heart.

B. ⟡ STAR LIGHT, STAR BRIGHT

As an extra step from simply showing what each guild room looks like, sleepovers will be encouraged through the remaining month as well. Perhaps it’s time for a repeat of the great Oran Sleep-Pile- or maybe a sequel hosting can be held in the Canopy with the Cheri Berries.

It’s a little trickier with members of the Lum Guild, with each one having their own apartment of sorts, but just ask! Surely a few friends can pile together in their Lum buddy’s house.

C. ⟡ THE GREAT ESCAPE

Polteageist is thrilled with the success of the ‘escape rooms’ from March. As such, the existing courses and challenges have been since repurposed in order to encourage pokemon to work together, improving on the initial project. Once again working in pairs, dangerous (but not lethal!) challenges await those who wish to sign up for them. As with before, there are three different rooms to choose from, and experienced rescue Pokemon will be on call the entire time. Anyone who takes longer than the allotted time will be rescued.

Ocean room. Two Pokemon are put to sleep and wake up in a small cave beneath the water, with pockets of oxygen for those who need them. Upon waking, they must work together to escape the labyrinth of caves beneath the water and make it back to Bottlecap Bay. Some obstacles along the way may include: a maze-like cave system with misleading routes, paths with less or no sunlight, strange plants that may inflict status effects, agitated or disoriented wild Pokemon, and varying water temperatures/underwater geysers. It has an hour time limit, so good luck!

Forest room. Two Pokemon are put to sleep and wake up in the center of a dense forest, with tree cover blocking most sunlight. Upon waking, they must work together to find their directions, navigate through thick brush and forest, and make it back to Bottlecap Bay. Some obstacles along the way may include: the fog, collapsed floors into cave systems, sudden steep drops, aggressive Pokemon and plants, vines, thorns, poisons and toxins. It has a two hour time limit, so good luck!

Cave room. Two Pokemon are put to sleep and wake up far beneath the city, in one of the many tunnels belonging to the mines. Upon waking, they must work together to reorient themselves and find a way out to Bottlecap Bay. Some obstacles along the way may include: unstable sections of mines leading to collapses, a vast assortment of tunnel directions leading to disorientation, extreme temperatures, lava pits, and lessening oxygen levels. It has an hour time limit, so good luck!

OOC NOTES.

CWS: body horror, medical imagery

⟡ Though dates specified cover only the last two weeks of April, players may assume continued donation drives and crafting projects to be available through the start of May, though less frequent.

⟡ We of the Bottlecap Bay Help Team would like to extend a sincere thank-you to everyone for their patience during the transition of tasks concerning the upkeep of the game. Current events have been taking a significant toll on many, but we are hoping to finalize Exploration Quest responses within the next few days. Thank you again, and happy threading!

Mmm... I heard that too. Maybe you're right. [Anasui huffs. There's a bigger mystery going on though, no doubt about it. He's used to not knowing what's going on but it's annoying not having any direction to chase so he could find out more.

Eh... but one thing at the time. Getting out of here. Anasui frowns and stops suddenly.]

The ground there. In front of you. Its colour is slightly off.
offtracks: (🚇 !)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! You are quite correct!

[Ingo halts immediately, peering down at the ground. After a second of casting about, he finds a rock to kick onto it. Normally he'd test terrain with a stick, but...you know there's a number of reasons that's not gonna be happening!]
dripdrive: (aw fuck)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-17 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
[At first, everything seems alright. Maybe the two of them were just paranoid... But then Anasui decides to copy Ingo and kick a second, smaller rock. The two stones are just heavy enough to trigger a trap and the ground partially collapses in front of them.

Anasui recoils as there's a rush of heat that floods the cavern. He scowls deeply as peers over the ledge.]

Lava pit trap. Fantastic.
offtracks: (🚇 !)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Bravo, well-spotted...

[Ingo rises onto his hind legs to peer at the trap. He's not sure he could make it across the gap - and, more importantly, there's no promise that the ground there is solid either.]

We had best turn about and find another route!
dripdrive: (annoyed)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-23 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Anasui could, possibly. He's fast and with a running start he could long jump across. However, since he can't fly, there's a chance of falling into the lava and Anasui doesn't want to roll that dice and risk his life.]

Hopefully, this isn't the only way forward. Otherwise, we'll need to figure out away across... [Anasui clicks his tongue irritably as he turns around to follow Ingo.] How do they expect anyone to navigate a maze this size in an hour?
offtracks: (🚇 alert)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-23 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if their estimates are off! They likely don't account for our adjustments to these bodies and abilities.

[Would a real Pokemon - a regular one? - be able to navigate faster? Ingo turns about and starts back the way they came as he speaks, moving faster now. They know that this part is safe; they can simply hurry back to the last fork.]
dripdrive: (aw fuck)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-24 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Something to complain about. [Anasui wonders if the organisers of this maze will let him tear this place apart if they decide this maze is impractical.] But if that's the case, maybe there's a way to use these abilities to our advantage.

[Like their size and speed. Since they're both larger than a majority of Pokemon, they make it back to the fork quickly. Anasui frowns and looks around at the ground again.]

... They dragged us down here, right? Maybe there are drag marks that could clue us onto which way to go.
offtracks: (🚇 buffer stop)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-25 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's a thought! I can try to scent for them as well!

[Anasui doesn't look like he'd have a particularly good sense of smell...Ingo lowers his head to the ground, still trotting quickly as he follows their own trails back.]
dripdrive: (annoyed)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-25 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[He has a beak. He can barely smell, honestly, not that Anasui cares. He's done worse to his own nose.

The bird watches Ingo lower himself and follows him. Once they get back to the starting area, Anasui starts to carefully look for drag marks. Admittedly, it's a little difficult, given the floors are stone and not dirt down here.]

... Got anything?
offtracks: (🚇 popular)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-25 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Once they're back at the starting point, Ingo starts to scent with more purpose, circling widely.]

Hm...yes, I think so! There are certainly Pokemon scents that are not either of us, and I rather doubt they're Slugma either.

[They'd smell like fire or ore, right?]

Here, let us try this way!
dripdrive: (Default)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-27 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Anasui's not seen a Slugma and he doesn't make a habit of smelling other Pokemon but that seems like a pretty safe bet, given what they know.]

Right. Lead the way. I'll watch for traps ahead and behind, you make sure that we get out of here.

[Even if there's not much of a choice, Anasui's chosen to trust the other Pokemon. He's got your back all the way!]
offtracks: (🚇 outlook)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-27 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ingo nods and proceeds, this time walking with his head lowered to the ground.]

It is strange to suddenly have a whole new sense like this! Not that I could not smell at all before, but certainly no better than any other human!
dripdrive: (no thoughts)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-28 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm... What's it like? Is having a better sense of smell like regular smelling just more intense? Or does it feel different as a Pokemon?
offtracks: (🚇 switch)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-28 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It is different! I feel that I can better...distinguish scents? I might have noticed the smell of certain Pokemon when I was a human, but I could hardly have distinguished between two different members of that species. And there is more to it as well - as if I can tell where else they have been, or what they have been eating! A little more information than I feel I need, in all truth.

[Useful as it can be, it's also sort of weird? He sniffs a little closer, then tilts his head for a moment.]

Someone large brought us down here, a fighting-type...Machoke, maybe. I cannot say how I know they were fighting-type. Comparison, I suppose?
dripdrive: (Judging look)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-05-29 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds useful, if nothing else. With senses like that, you could be a detective.

[Anasui's definition of weird is a bit more flexible than most.]

Makes sense. Has to be strong enough to drag both of us down here. Any other Pokemon scents to be aware of?
offtracks: (🚇 drag)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-05-29 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm...I think there are Magcargo down here. Something of a hot-rock scent.

[He's not sure how to describe it exactly.]

They are especially weak to water moves, though I suspect neither of us has any.
dripdrive: (Espathra_Neutral)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-06-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I certainly don't. [So no water moves. Annoying. They'll just have to make do... or at least move quickly enough to dodge these hot-rock Pokemon.]

As long as they don't resist psychic moves, we'll be fine. In any case, let's move so we don't have to fight.

[Not that he minds getting his hands dirty...]
offtracks: (🚇 doodlebug)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-06-04 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed!

[He's keeping a good pace, though he does pause whenever there's a fork just to make sure he doesn't lose the scent. It's becoming slightly more difficult to track, muddled with the trails of various other Pokemon, old and new.]

Dark-types are what you really must watch for! Psychic attacks cannot affect them at all.
dripdrive: (resting bitch face)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-06-05 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Hopefully, more smells means more traffic. Which means more of a way out. Anasui doesn't rush the process since he's more interested in getting out of the maze than beating the imposed time limit.]

Annoying. That's definitely my best move... [And there's a non-zero chance they'll encounter a dark Pokemon in here... because it's a dark cavern.] I guess I can still Peck them on the head, so I won't be completely useless in a fight against one.

Do you have coverage against Dark Types? [He does look ghostly, after all. That might be bad...]
offtracks: (🚇 short line)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-06-09 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid not. They are a weakness of mine, but Typhlosion do not naturally learn any moves that are effective against them! I believe they may be able to learn one or two with special tutoring...

[But he doesn't know if anyone here even does that?]

I could ask a fighting-type, but we do not really have many about. I know some normal-type moves, at any rate, so I could at least strike them for neutral damage!
dripdrive: (Default)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-06-14 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... Mine too. I need to learn how to use moves to cover my bases... The Forests seem full of Dark and Ghost types...

[Maybe that's a business Ingo can open up once he gets a better grasp on this world!]

We have a disproportionate number of types here. I know there's like three types not represented by any of us... At least from what I've seen.
offtracks: (🚇 !)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-06-15 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
All for the best. Type diversity is important!

[They don't always make certain to arrange mission teams that way, true, but they can if there's ever a serious one with a known target. Speaking of which...Ingo pauses for a moment.]

Ah, hold on. Do you hear that?

[It's a sort of...oozing sound.]
dripdrive: (annoyed)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-06-15 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Anasui stops walking when Ingo does and tenses, feathers fluffing up as he does so. The man purses his beak together and furrows his brow.]

Somewhat... It's pretty quiet... But it sounds almost like... slime? Something that squelches...
offtracks: (🚇 degraded)

[personal profile] offtracks 2025-06-16 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe a Slugma. Or -

[Ugh. Sort of a foul smell starting to permeate the air. Ingo grimaces and shakes his head, backing off slightly as Grimer enters the tunnel!]
dripdrive: (Default)

[personal profile] dripdrive 2025-06-16 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
[And suddenly Anasui is glad that he has a beak instead of a sensitive nose, because that thing reeks even still! Anasui wrinkles his face and glares.]

Oy... you over there. Slime thing. You here to cause trouble? Or you showing us the way out?
