Paved Roads Quest Catch-all! | OTA
Who: Emporio, You and maybe even some asshole ostrich (Anasui)
What: Paved Roads quest
When: Throughout May
Where: The city streets further towards the forest.
Warnings: Anasui being Anasui.
For a while, Heliolisk has been in charge of expanding the city streets further towards the forest, making transport of goods and services easier and overall expanding Bottlecap Bay. The project had been slow going but progressing well until about two months ago, when Heliolisk noticed that some of the streets have somehow diminished in length. The reason why remains unknown. Perhaps it was a quirk of the forest that the guilds didn't understand - 'Maybe the forest doesn't want to be expanded into?' - but that didn't explain why some of the roads closer to town were also disassembled, making patches in the road. Many other Pokemon also pointed out there are a number of cobblestone towers alongside the path wherever these patches are, obviously sourced from the road itself!
The mystery of why the roads are shortening is largely left to speculation in favour of actually solving the problem. Hence why the quest has appeared on the quest board again, this time from Polteageist: they need reliable Pokemon to help clear the roads of debris, flatten the dirt where it needs to be flattened and place the cobblestone back.
There are many roads to be fixed and you'll likely find Pokemon already there, regardless if you're doing a patch job or going all the way to the forest's edge to re-expand the paths. One of those Pokemon is a large Espathra, who only casts a half-glance at you before going back to what he was doing. He seems to be placing cobblestone in a very particular way...
...and according to the Cubone rounding up as many as possible for the job, that's entirely typical. He can't be sure if it's something he specifically did in their own world, mind you, but he's pretty sure he would have if possible. Emporio notably seems more concerned with just gathering stones to be available for Anasui to place. Perhaps it's a strength thing. Perhaps not? He's absolutely doing his part, but occasionally he'll watch someone else putting their stones down and then glance in Anasui's direction before wincing. As if he knows something.
And maybe he does, because after a good bit of work with their own team, Emporio will jump.
"...Anasui's gone!"
...It's probably fine, right? Best to just focus on your own work.
Although... if you are placing cobblestone down, you may notice Anasui behind you, pulling up the stones you JUST placed and swapping their places. What is up with that???
[[OOC - To account for how many are involved in Anasui and Emporio's team for Paved Roads, and the fact that the Mods saw fit to refer to him in the quest response over all, this is a thread-jack friendly open log! Specify if you want Anasui or Emporio most of all, but otherwise, there's no holds barred here. That said, if you do not want threadjacks, please note this in your tag in. That way it doesn't get too unwieldy for you.]]

Won't he get in trouble with the guild leaders if he's, ah— [ Laios lowers his voice. ] —sabotaging a quest?
[ That said, he opens up his bag of rocks to start the process of repaving at other section all over again. His stack is nowhere near as neat as the one Anasui allegedly made. ]
no subject
[You know he actually has to think about that.]
...I think if it gets done, he'll be fine..?
...He's not doing it to sabotage anything at least, it's just...
[He rubs his head, and sighs.] ...It's just a thing he does. Sometimes stuff gets pent up, and he needs to take it apart until he figures it out. Or until it's 'right' again.
[He looks at their road.] It's just, this is the result this time.]
no subject
Emporio, do you think we can convince him to take apart something else? Just for a little bit?
[ He says we, but he knows the Cubone would probably have a more compelling argument for Anasui than he could ever come up with. ]
no subject
[Maybe?? Hopefully??] If it comes to it, we could always focus on preparing the road for him to put the stones down on...
[Which is to say he really doesn't think they can convince him and honestly they should be relieved it's the road.]
It's...it's not really a thing that's easily controlled though...I think it's like when someone unconsciously scratches an itch. Except a lot worse.
no subject
M-maybe? Do you think that could really work? [ Honestly, at this point, patting down dirt seems like the easiest part for him anyway. He can't help but feel a little sympathetic too as he picks up a stone, placing it down with more than extra care. ] That sounds unbearable... if the road is making him that itchy, maybe we should just get rid of it all together. [ Laios, no. ]
no subject
[He looks around, trying to spot where Anasui even is.
Eventually, he does find where the other is putting some stones down.]
...Look- he's still fixing the road. He just has a particular idea about how it should be done.
...I think getting rid of it would make it worse for everyone, for the same reason actually.
no subject
[ He sounds exasperated, but he's still working in-between his sentences at least. ]
If he can just tell us how it should be done, I'll do it. [ Anything to get him out of here faster. Please. ]
no subject
And he and Emporio 'Ally Swap.'
And now he's suddenly looming over Laios.]
... Maintenance will be easy. It's exactly the same as Heliolisk's original plans - I've just made sure it's consistent throughout the entire road instead of just the start.
You just keep doing what you're doing. I'll take care of the rest.
no subject
[Emporio, now abruptly a number of meters away, just wobbles on his feet as he tries to get over his disorientation.]
H-H
Hey-!
[Well, Anasui's talking to Laios now...]
no subject
Wh— [ That's not Emporio. He lets out a small yelp at the large bird now hovering over him, dropping a stone while he's at it. He looks around for the Cubone until the other explains. ] B-but, Anasui...
[ Listen, he's not a road maintenance expert, but. ] Wouldn't it be faster if we do the rest... together?
no subject
Just flatten the roads and remove the weeds. Leave the placing to me. It'll be done when it's done. You don't have to wait around for me to finish placing everything.
no subject
He told you Laios. Anasui does as Anasui does!!]
no subject
[ He slumps, unable to really argue when Anasui is so confident about his process. Glancing around for Emporio again, he finally spots him, offering a silent shake of his head before returning to the task at hand. ]
Alright. I can do that. Is there a specific spot you want me to start on? [ He is going to avoid re-doing his work at all costs, and that means doing exactly as Anasui says. Probably just what the bird wants, honestly. ]
no subject
West end road. You and Emporio can continue flattening the road and weeding it. Put the rocks down in a pile for me and I'll sort them. Once you're done, you can go. I'll finish up the rest.
[He looks up at Emporio and Ally Swaps back with him so he can finish the part of the road he was just working on! Thanks for being his anchor point.]
no subject
[....Plunk.
Well here he is???]
....s...so there you have it.
[This is their life now Laios.]
We can probably at least make it faster than if we were handling the paving stones this way..? ...I mean, he's better at lifting them...
