1. Right Behind You

Yelling from the training rooms is sometimes par for the course for the sound of exertion and combat. What probably is less common is short screams of varying tones.

Anyone who investigates will find Kinger, circling a training dummy while making short yelps and screams, attempting to Astonish the dummy. He sounds like he's starting to get a little hoarse, but he is singularly focused on the dummy and doesn't notice when you approach.

2. Sea Seeking King

Despite having a body that, for the first time in decades, probably needs sleep, a few nights in to his stay he can't. His newly tiny stature gives him the luxury that few others in Oran housing have, which is to sneak out without waking his roommates. Probably.

He wanders his way outside to stand at the cliffside, feeling the cold spray of saltwater from the ocean. He laughs to himself quietly.

"It's real. I'm not in the circus anymore."

He sits near the cliffside, just enjoying the delicate feeling of salty autumn air that nothing in the digital world could possibly replicate. He lets off a faint glow, making himself visible to anyone else restless tonight.

3. Wildcard

Akechi isn't exactly a warm or comforting person. However, the sound of screams was impossible to miss, especially as someone who frequents the training area. Thus, after a while, he flutters over, dropping a glass of water.

"If you're so set on screaming, you may want to stay hydrated."

Kinger yelps as a glass of water falls from the sky, and looks up to see it came from his friend, the perfectly spherical bird!

"Thank you, Akechi!" Kinger brings the glass to his nonexistent mouth and takes a drink. "I'm practicing my secret Purple Yell technique!"

"Ah, yes... Astonish." He nods along. A decent coverage move, particularly for a grass type. "That should be useful against ghosts and psychic types and give you a skill to use against enemies that resist your natural grass typing."

But what else can he do? Well, that can wait for now. As it stands, Kinger should enjoy the drink.

"Grass? Don't be silly, I'm a fungus." Kinger looks up at the mushrooms growing on his head. "Right?"

It could be weird wheat stalks, or... corn? There's a lot of kinds of grass. And mushrooms.

Akechi chuckles. "True, biologically speaking, fungi aren't plants, yet when it comes to elemental typing, it seems they are classified as such." With a shrug of his shoulders, he takes a moment to look over Kinger. "There are... I believe eighteen total types. Some correspond to typical elements, such as fire, water, electric, and grass, but then you have more abstract concepts, such as 'ghost' and 'fairy.'"

"Ohhh!" A lot of people lump mushrooms in with vegetables, so that makes perfect sense. "I should learn some Grass attacks then. I tried it before and I just did the Stuck In The Ground move."

"The... 'Stuck in the Ground' move." He tilts his head slightly, squinting. "And just what exactly did that move entail?"

"Oh, well, it was sort of like-"

Kinger wiggles his mycellium and, seemingly without resistance or damage to the floor, they root themselves into the floor of the training room, with green waves of healing energy moving up his body as he Ingrains himself.

"Ha!" Kinger looks down and remembers why he calls it 'Stuck in the Ground'. "Oh."

"Ah... Perhaps it's a healing move, drawing nutrients from the ground below." Based on what he's observed with grass types, it does make sense. "From what I've observed, many mushroom-based Pokémon specialize in powder-based moves that can poison or lull the enemies to sleep, or absorbing strength from their foes."

Pay no mind to the slight twitch in his eye as he speaks. It's not like he's had direct experience with that powder.

"Powder, huh?"

Kinger shakes his head around, trying to see if it would shake something from his mushrooms, but it just ends up making him dizzy. He sways around for a second until his Ingrain releases and he falls forward.

"I guess I'm not powdery enough yet." Kinger raises his mycelium in his best approximation of a shrug.

"You may need to train further." Akechi brings a wing below his beak, humming softly. "I found that the more I fought and the more quests I partook in, the more acclimated I grew to this form, making it easier to draw upon its natural skills."

[0dchess]

"Maybe I should ask Flowey if he wants to go on a quest!" Kinger says excitedly. "He'd be a grass type, right? The little flower seed guy?"

[truthdecided]

"Yes, Flowey-kun is a grass type as well, and far more overtly than the likes of Ren." He pauses. "He's my partner and essentially resembles a green cat."

"Oh, so sometimes it's just color coded?" Kinger asks, curiously. "So are you a water type, or just blue?"

[truthdecided]

"Well, no. I'm pure flying for now..." He touches the black feathers around his face. "Though, the colors do resemble a costume I wore before, and I'm eventually going to evolve into an enormous, armored raven."

"Evolve? Do you mean you know what your species will look like in millions of years?"

Also, a costume? Was Akechi a superhero? Is seeing the future his power? Is Kinger friends with a superhero now!?

[truthdecided]

"It's closer to a metamorphosis than Darwin's theory of evolution." How to put it... He taps below his beak with his left wing. "When Pokémon evolve, their forms change, typically growing larger and more powerful in the process. They may gain an additional type, or brand new abilities. In my case, I'm to eventually become a steel and flying type."

"Ohhh! Pokémon are like insects!" Kinger says, excitedly. "Except we get stronger by butting our heads against each other like stag beetles!"

Kinger stares off as he daydreams what he might metamorphosize into, maybe some sort of mushroom butterfly!
