"No," Flowey says, as a Pumpkaboo materializes directly behind him. "I'm starting to think they aren't even real."

After all, a haunted pumpkin? (A Gourgeist materializes behind Flowey as well.) That's just silly.

"I got here early, so I've been watching this field for half an hour and haven't seen a thing."

"Flowey!" Kinger yelps, leaping forward and blasting Purple Yell- or as he's learned it's properly called, Astonish- at the Gourgeist.

After the leap, Kinger flops in front of Flowey, looking up at the two Pumpkin Pokémon.

"There's more where that came from!"

Of course. 'Right behind him' is one of the most classic places for enemies to be. The Astonish makes the Gourgeist flinch, which gives Flowey enough time to act.

"Hey, idiot! That other pumpkin ghost just laughed at you! Are you just gonna take that?!"

Lacing his words with magical intent is what transforms mediocre ragebait into a Swagger attack. Gourgeist seems to shine as its power grows, but Kinger can practically see little birds spinning around its head as confusion follows. Flowey ducks as Gourgeist swings its massive arms and knocks two other Pumpkaboo around before finally punching itself in the face.

"Not bad, right?" he says, turning to Kinger. "I've been practicing! Hee hee!"

He says this right as one of the Pumpkaboo levels him with a Confuse Ray of its own. Flowey's eyes start spinning around. This might get volatile.

Kinger leaps back upright, circling around the Gourgeist and yelping out another Astonish. The Gourgeist whirls around, fighting through the confusion and flinch chance to show Kinger the most terrifying Scary Face on its pumpkin that he had ever seen, slowing down his reactions.



Kinger stepped back slowly, taking the moment to take stock of the situation. "Flowey! Are you okay over there!?"

"Who said that?!" He fires a string of Bullet Seeds at Kinger, but the majority of them miss badly. The one or two that do manage to hit are Not Very Effective. "Kinger, why are there three of you?! You should've told me if you were bringing a Queen or a Duke or something!"

The Pumpkaboo laugh at Flowey's antics. This all appears to be a big game to them. Maybe amusing them enough would also make them leave.

"Flowey, snap out of it!" Kinger shouts, a few seeds bouncing off of his head.

The Pumpkaboo have made their way back after the Gourgeist haymaker, and now have Kinger surrounded.

"Say, we're getting some entertainment together back home, maybe you could come and see it if you stop hurting people?"

The Pumpkaboo pause for a moment, considering it, until the Gourgeist slams their fist down on to one of them again. The now very beat up Pumpkaboo glares at Kinger as glowing life force begins to flow out of him and into the eyeholes of the pumpkin.

"Leave him alone!"

Through pure luck, Flowey shakes off the confusion and manages to pelt the Gourgeist with a Gravelrock from the ground. It's enough to break the Pokemon's hold, but the damage has been done. "Stick your roots into the ground," he says, turning to Kinger. "It'll heal some of the damage off."

Running out of options, he tries a desperate Grasswhistle. The Gourgeist, now full of life energy and no longer confused, lays down using its 'hands' as a pillow and goes into a deep sleep.

"I didn't think that would work," Flowey mumbles.

Kinger, now looking much more like dried mushrooms than fresh ones, stumbles backwards a bit from the Pumpkaboo before Ingraining himself.

"'Stuck in the Ground' technique!" Kinger croaks hoarsely.

The Pumpkaboo turn to look at the clearest threat and float over the sleeping Gourgeist towards Flowey.

Flowey feels both validated and a little doomed that he is now the biggest threat. Pumpkaboo manages to knock him down with a Shadow Sneak. He only has Grass-type moves to counter with, so in the end, his only defense is to Grasswhistle until all of them are asleep in a pumpkin pile.

That's one way to end the battle, he guesses. Flowey turns to Kinger. "Got any Blast Seeds? Poisonous berries? A gun?"

"I've been told Astonish is good against ghosts, so- AGH! AGH! AGH!"

Kinger repeatedly screams at all of the ghost Pokémon, whittling down their health as best he can with a (super effective!) 30 base power and 35 attack.

"YOU IDIOT!" Flowey screams. Even when it's super effective, that move is weak as hell!!!!!

But it's too late. All the Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist get a rude awakening, weakened but alive-- and very grumpy. Flowey lets out a perfect Wilhelm scream as the ghosts surround the Sunkern and beat him up.

"Flowey!"

Kinger panics as he realizes his mistake, and realizes that if he still has the ability to glow that he had in the circus then maybe...

Kinger focuses his energy and tries to manifest a healing butterfly, and to his surprise a yellow butterfly does materialize in front of him briefly out of powder flowing from his mushroom caps, but instantly dissolves into pollen and blows away.

Kinger focuses harder, forming a butterfly again and then letting more and more pollen flow into it until it is a dense sphere of healing(?) pollen.

"Steady..."

Kinger tries to aim for where Flowey is in the mass of pumpkins, but as he fires it off a Pumpkaboo moves in the way and takes the full force of his Pollen Puff, blasting it away from the group and knocking it out.

The other Pumpkaboo seems to realize that Kinger means business and take off. Gourgeist seems to have gotten tired of beating Flowey up and leaves, taking the unconscious Pumpkaboo with it.

Mission complete! Fortunately, Flowey is cognizant enough to take his own advice and use Ingrain as well. Within a few moments, he should be fine. Mostly. For now, they're just two bros drinking nutrients from the soil together.

In the chaos, the Gourgeist left a pile of... something? Kinger strengthens his glow so they can see what it is.

"Is that just a big pile of candy."

"... hey, was this whole thing some stupid Halloween bit?!" Well, NOW it all makes sense. "Don't eat that, it's probably going to turn you into a pig."

we can either leave this here or have more flowey and kinger hangouts, up to you

Kinger, still looking somewhat dehydrated, nods confusedly. He has no idea if Flowey is referencing something from his own world or if Bottlecap Bay has magic pig candy.

"Now... I've never figured out how to unroot myself."
