Umemiya absolutely gets tripped, but he catches himself pretty quickly, turning to give Anasui a look of betrayal.

"What did I do to deserve that?"

"You need to lie down. However, you seem more than intent on avoiding that at every possible opportunity," Anasui says bluntly as if what he did was perfectly normal, thank you very much.

"When was the last time you took a break?"

"I ate breakfast before coming here." Nevermind that we're firmly in the late afternoon, edging toward evening.

"I said a break, not a meal. But thank you for proving my point that you're not resting," Anasui scowls. "It's worse, I can't believe it's worse than last time."

"I know you're a boy scout or whatever but knock it off and sit down. You're in a medical setting, you cannot be tired or off your game, even if you're not a doctor. You see to sick people, injured people, and kids. You distribute foods and medicines. You can't fuck up, and you will if you're tired or you don't eat."

"It's not about me being a 'boy scout'. It's...I should have been on the quests with them. I fucked up, by not going and being useful in the field, and now it's my job to take care of those who got hurt."

His ears and tail droop as he speaks.

"I ought to be good for something."

"People chose to go out, people got hurt. That could have been any mission and any fucking month. It's not your responsibility to go with people if you're not going to put your 100% in. They made their teams and they went to do the job. Some of them... Some of them fucked up. And that's how missions go... or are you so arrogant that you think that no one would have gotten hurt if you were there?" Anasui frowns, looking down at Umemiya with a scowl.

Anasui is aware his brand of honesty is not kind. And honestly, he's frustrated too at how the other bounties went, but if Anasui is good at anything, it's knowing how to channel his emotions towards a proper goal. He takes a deep breath to calm himself down and then crouches down next to Umemiya.

"Look. Stop giving yourself obligations when there are none. You're a volunteer. Your job is to take care of those who got hurt, not to kill yourself in the process. That should be fucking good enough."

"I'm not going to kill myself. Last time I seriously tried that, I was like eight and my parents had just died. This is just me trying to be useful."

He rakes a hand back over his aura-sensing tendrils with a heavy sigh.

"I'm used to being responsible for all the guys at my school. I'm at the top, I'm where the buck stops. Though I was a very different kind of leader than the guild heads here, from what I've seen."

Anasui blinks slowly and stares blankly at Umemiya. He doesn't respond immediately but Umemiya will feel through his aura that Anasui isn't feeling awkward or concerned. Instead he... empathises with Umemiya? It's hard to say, given how Anasui's stoicism prevails even over those other emotions.

"... You do have issues," Wow. "Well, you're not at school and you're not at the top now. I'm not telling you to pass the buck or stop helping. If one of your guys wasn't eating or sleeping right, you'd try help them, I assume? Well, I'm telling you to take a break so you can rest and then be more efficient with helping. Idiot."

Why? He's PERFECT.

"Did I ever claim not to have issues? But, uh...yeah. I'll go home for at least the rest of the night, come back sometime tomorrow, I guess."

That was not the expected reaction, from Anasui. But he prefers that one to pity or confusion.

[dripdrive]

"So you can acknowledge the issues and not do anything about it? For fuck's sake-" Anasui wishes yet again to have his hands so he can rub his temples. "But I'm glad you're listening to reasonable advice. Now, unfortunately for you, I don't trust you so I'm going to walk you back to your place. Make sure you don't stop and help anyone on the way back... because knowing you, you would."

"No, see, you following me home makes me want to be hospitable and offer to make dinner for both of us."

That's only half a joke. And Anasui is lucky it's that much.

Anasui rolls his eyes and shakes his head.

"You can offer, I'll refuse. I always go home and try to eat with the kid anyway," Anasui says in his same, dismissive tone, though Umemiya will definitely sense Anasui's amusement. "Can't hospitality your way out of this one."

"Maybe sometime I can feed both of you, then. Not tonight, obviously. Cooking for three no longer counts as resting. But...I make a pretty mean omurice."

He's beginning to walk toward the Spire, as all good Oran berries must.

[dripdrive]

"I can cook but neither Emporio or I are particularly skilled at it. So I won't say no to a meal that's actually cooked and not raw berries." So another day then. Anasui wouldn't say he's looking forward to it but he's not against it at all.

Anasui follows after him, making good on his promise to walk Umemiya back.
