He's the worst [affectionate]
He gestures to follow as he leads her over to the first site that was marked off for them.
"An' you can call me Impmon. Nice to meet ya, toots."
The point she was making, it seems, has evaded him.

"So you're Impmon! Guil-chan's friend, right?" she asks, sounding a bit friendlier. The other day, she'd vaguely learned about the concept of Digimon and Guilmon had mentioned him among the ones who wound up in the bay.
no subject
Seemed like everybody knew Guilmon around here. Big friendly dope like that, Impmon probably shouldn't be surprised.
"Yeah, me an' him saved the world once, back at home."
...Okay, it was mostly Guilmon and his other friends, really, but Impmon helped a little at least.
no subject
"Saved the world? From what?"
no subject
A long story- and he wasn't gonna get into how much of it was his fault for creating weaknesses the D-Reaper could exploit in the first place.
...and without asking, Impmon pops up on the other side of the big rock to help lift it. Think fast, Mayaka, this rock's moving now.
no subject
With the help of the Sableye, the rock is dislodged from its spot fairly easily.
"Thanks. Huh. We're the same size, but you're much stronger," she says with a furrowed brow. Is it because she's been neglecting training with Umemiya? But it's not like she's been spending all this time bumming around, she'd like to believe that she's gotten good at digging.
To reassure herself, she gets back to work clearing the site at a brisk pace.

"Don't worry 'bout it, I'm built for diggin' rocks. Sableye eat 'em, see?"
...Oh, right, and he's slacking in all his fluster. He's just gonna scurry back to work clearing the area.
"So how'd you get to know Pine- eh, Guilmon, anyway?"
no subject
"We met while doing a quest for B-chan -- uh, Bigby -- awhile ago." Guilmon's a good kid, and it's easy to talk to him even with his little quirks.
CRUSTY TAGS AHOY
He doesn't seem to make anything of the B-chan thing, far too focused on keeping the rocks and debris neatly piled to the side and out of their way so they can get to digging.
"Never worked with Bigby much. Seems kinda grumpy all the time. Not much for people, I guess."
Impmon apparently feels comfortable uttering that sentence with a straight face.
"...but Pineapple-head can make friends with anybody, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised."
!!
"Yeah, B-chan was a bit of a grump at first. Unlike you, who's the life of the party, am I right?" she asks teasingly.
That being said, she's managed to catch Bigby hanging around others more often than she's seen Impmon.

He knows exactly what it means, which is why he's so irritated about it. Particularly because she's obviously right.
"I happen to be a very fun person!"
no subject
"Alright, Im-kun," she begins, deciding on a nickname for the Sableye, "if that's the case, do you want to see who can finish digging faster?"
She's still lingering on the fact that he seems to stronger, even though they have similar builds. He's got a pair of gloves for his claws too! Digging isn't just about strength, and Mayaka believes she's more dexterous than him. Time to prove her hunch.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Impmon.
"Oh, you're so on, toots!"
Yeah, it seems that's not gone anywhere. He yanks off his little gloves and sets them aside, flexing his claws to stretch them out, grinning broadly.
"Just say when and we'll get started."
1/2 (lollll this is great)
"I'll count down from 3, and we start on go."
She lays down the rules clearly, intending to stick to them.
"3... 2... 1 --"
2/2

Impmon uses Dig! It's super effective! There's good news and bad news for Mayaka. The bad news is, he's a very fast digger- he's had a lot of practice with speed burrowing and he's definitely putting it to use tearing down those holes for the construction.
The good news, however, is that his speed seems to come at the expense of precision. He's probably gonna have to go back and fix a lot of mistakes after the fact, mostly digging too deep or not deep enough before moving on, which will definitely cost him some time later.

"H-hey!" she coughs out, wiping her arms and face.
While she's only dug up a fraction of what Impmon has managed in the same time, she's put in effort to stick to Spinarak's instructions. Impmon's various holes are either far too shallow or too deep for the support beams.
Still, the aim had been to see who could dig faster. Mayaka has reluctantly to concede.
"Fine, you win!"
She's not sure if Impmon can hear her. He looks completely absorbed in the challenge.
I hate him so much [Affectionate]
"Hey, aren't you helpin'-
He stops in mid-taunt, zips back over, and peers at her.
"Oh, wow, you sure got a lotta dirt on ya, huh? You gotta dig it away from ya, toots, you'll get it all over otherwise."
i love himp
"... I'm this way because you were digging all over the place!!"
Pointing a dirt-covered claw at Impmon's messy work, she says, in a more reasonable volume: "Every hole is a different size, Spinarak's not going to be happy about that."
no subject
Oh, uh...
Oh.
He glances at the dirt all over her, then at his sloppy and imprecise holes, then at the dirt he's tossed pretty well everywhere. And then he turns slowly back to her, an awkward smile plastered on his face through sheer force of will.
"I-it's fine, I can fix it! Ehehe... ehehehe..."
He indelicately yanks the little red bandana off his neck and starts smearing dirt off her face, in what is almost certainly an ineffectual attempt at cleaning her off.
"S-see? No problem!"
he's so cute this shouldn't be allowed
"Hey! Don't get too close. My claws are poisonous!"
She raises her arms up and out of the way. She doesn't want to poison another Pokémon, especially when she's been keeping her slate clean after the very first accident.
"It's fine. I'll take a bath later." Her initial anger has fizzled out now that she can see he didn't mean it.
He's a dork. He's a dork, a goober, and a dingus. All these things.
He takes a step back, shoulders slumping as he restores the dirty bandana to his neck. He doesn't seem nearly as alarmed about the prospect of potential poisoning as he probably should be, instead clearly more focused on his rising embarrassment.
"...guess I better start, uh, fixin' the holes, huh?"
He gives another awkward laugh, then hastily turns and starts inspecting the results of his work for things that need to be fixed.
good to wrap !
"I'll help too. It'll be faster if we do it together."
Looks like it will take them awhile to fix everything up, but technically most of the digging is done now thanks to Impmon.
"You weren't kidding when you said you were built for this stuff."
