A lone Sneasel wanders up along the cliffside, passing by all the various materials set out along the construction site as she scans her surroundings.

"Spinarak said they needed help over here..."

She'd been told that due to her relatively small size, she'd be most useful digging holes to place the support beams in. It seems like someone else has arrived earlier and is already working at one of the marked areas.

"Hey! Is this where we're digging the holes?" she asks as she approaches the stranger with his back turned to her.

About time somebody was actually on-task and not insulting him as soon as they saw him. Maybe this wouldn't be a terrible day after all.

"You got it, toots. Them claws any good at diggin'?"

And of course he capitalizes on it immediately with his incredibly charming disposition.

She scrunches her brow in mild bewilderment.

"You can just call me Mayaka," she says curtly, but doesn't hesitate to jump into the shallow hole to join the Sableye.

"I was on snow shoveling duty in winter. This is my first time digging up earth. Is there a proper way to do this?"

He's the worst [affectionate]

"Huh? Sure, same thing. Diggin' is diggin.' Less you gotta deal with rock or somethin'"

He gestures to follow as he leads her over to the first site that was marked off for them.

"An' you can call me Impmon. Nice to meet ya, toots."

The point she was making, it seems, has evaded him.

mon makeover with eleanor

Eleanor will find Mayaka sitting at one of the tables in a quiet corner of the Archives, fervently working on a series of drawings in response to Noelle's latest posting on the quest board.

Thinking about clothing like will be useful to train her eye for character design and capturing details. However, after the first set of completed sketches, Mayaka belatedly realises that she'd defaulted to drawing the dresses for a human model. She's never had to think about drawing clothes for a non-human before!

"How would a deer wear this...?" she wonders aloud, sounding a tad bit exasperated.

Eleanor doesn't come to the Archives particularly often, today is one of the rare occassions she has. She's been drawn to researching miscellaneous things, but has run into trouble reaching the higher shelves so many times (seriously, she used to be seven feet tall--) that she's instead resigned to taking a break in a quieter corner to figure out where to go from here. It's nice in the Archives, she should come more often, even if it is to the chagrin of the chaperone she shook off immediately to poke around.

Her eyes fall to Mayaka's drawings, tilting her head to the side to watch without announcing her presence at all. Her friend seems quite lost in her work, anyway, so she's content to watch in silence.

"I think you just need to think about it horizontally."

While Mayaka would usually be more wary about letting someone see her art for the first time, she is deep in 'artist-mode' and takes the suggestion seriously, even though she hasn't even registered who's talking to her.

"You think so? Won't the skirt look different since it only covers the back legs?"

The Sneasel proceeds to draw out some basic shapes on the paper - a four-legged figure, and then blocky shapes to visualise how the different clothing panels would fit.

With that done, she turns and realises that Eleanor is next to her.

"Elly-chan?!"

"Hiii."

Eleanor's resting her chin on her flippers, which are propped up on the closest approximation to where her elbows would be. It's probably not the most comfortable, looking at it, but she's got a good view of the drawings from there. She smiles. A giggle can't help but escape her lips. "Who are you drawing these for, Mayaka-chan?"

[ parvati's already listened to toxicroak's brief, probably a few times before now as other groups have passed by. she's mostly here to supervise mayaka and a friend she's bringing along -- someone she's pretty sure she hasn't met yet. and that might be all the better, since she gets to supervise and help somebody learn a new skill.

she stands with her arms folded across her chest, all of her handy-dandy equipment in tow barring her hammer. it's not particularly practical to be lugging it around in a cave (nor is it particularly safe given its size). ]

[Aelita had listened to the brief. She wasn't sure how much help she'd be, but she had to try. Eventually she'd find something she could do. She was all to happy to follow someone and learn.

So she was bounding over on all fours, her long tail raised behind her.]

I'm here!

[Her limbs are already covered in dirt just from the run here.]

[Mayaka comes dashing up to Parvati, right behind Aelita. She'd been standing at the back of the group during the briefing, and fretted for a moment when the Dedenne disappeared during the chaos of everyone moving off to work on their assigned tasks.]

Lita-chan, you're so small, you've got to be careful about running off like that. [She's already having second thoughts about including the young girl in today's quest, but at least she can watch out for her if they're in the same group.]

Anyway, this is my friend, Parvati-chan. [The Sneasel gestures towards the Tinkaton.]

Hi!

[ she gives a wave to both friends, before looking down at the tiny dedenne. at least she's bright orange, so she should be difficult to lose sight of in that regard at the very least. ]

You can just call me Parvati too if you want. I don't really mind. [ she smiles. ] We've gotta get a good amount of materials - I've got plenty of stuff to get it with but I'm also okay to hang back and let you two take the lead on the actual finding. Just so you can get the hang of it.

[ it's also not a total truth because tinkaton shiny instinct but. sssh. ]

stamp rally w/ neige!

Mayaka walks through the main building of the Cheri Berry guild carrying odd-sized pieces of wood in her arms. It makes sense that the guild would have plenty of spare material to donate towards Parvati's new project, and so she's here to collect a batch and continue working on her stamps.

She's wracking her brains to try to figure out how to get all this wood down from the treetops and back to town, until an unfamiliar Pokemon catches her attention. They look like a fluffy little cloud. Upon closer observation, she realises they're a bird Pokemon. The object they're currently focusing on looks very similar to what she's holding in her arms.

"Are you working on stamps for Parvati-chan too?" she asks the stranger.

When Neige saw Pavarti's request on the quest board, he couldn't resist giving it a shot--it just sounded like a lot of fun! Well, it sound here being the keyword. Once he actually started trying his hand (figurative) at it, he found it was much more difficult in practice.

Everything was harder without magic, in all honesty--not that Neige was ever opposed to old-fashioned hard work.

He currently has a square of wood clutched in one set of small talons, trying to work out the best way to keep it balanced while he chips away with his other set or with his beak, but even sunshine-and-rainbows Neige LeBlanche is starting to get a little frustrated.

"Oh, yes!" Looking up from what he's doing, he gives a sheepish little chirp. "Well, I don't know how productive I'm really being, but...it's such a fun project, I thought I'd give it my best shot!"

Looking at how the Swablu has to grip onto the wood to fashion it into a stamp, Mayaka is for once thankful that she got dealt with her poison claws instead. There must be a way to make it easier for him.

"That looks tough. Let me see if I can help. Oh, I'm Mayaka by the way."

She sits down cross-legged next to Neige and begins sifting through her assortment of wooden planks and pieces, as if looking for a specific shape.

"Really? Thank you! I'm Neige--it's nice to meet you!"

He relinquishes his hold on his work-in-progress stamp and hops just a little closer, watching her with obvious intrigue.

"Gosh, but you did come prepared. Parvati's going to be so excited to get that many stamps, if you're planning on making them all."

Well, if she can help him, maybe he can come up with a way to help her right back. Putting heads together to make a task more efficient could never hurt! Also, thinking about it that way makes him feel a little less...limited.

[Mayaka cranes her head to watch Pidgeot take to the skies. Having finished briefing and pairing up those who came to help out this shift, the bird is already off to check on the progress on another part of the forest.

The spot assigned to Mayaka's team isn't too far away, so the little Sneasel begins walking in that direction, leaves crunching under her steps. She looks over her shoulder to check if her partner is following, and realises she hasn't introduced herself since it would've been rude to talk as Pidgeot was giving instructions.]

I don't think we've met before. I'm Mayaka.

Hey hey, Mayaka! Nice to meetcha.

[ actually, he's kind of grateful to meet more bipeds. they're not as common as he'd expected. he's gotten used to overcoming the impulse to hop everywhere and strides confidently to Mayaka, giving her a peace sign as he greets; ]

I'm Cater! But everybody calls me Caycay.

[ again, no one calls him that. ]

You ready to get to work?

Hmmm... what about Cay-kun? Or Cay-chan?

[Mayaka asks quite seriously, brushing aside the nickname he'd suggested in the process.]

Are you familiar with the forest? I'm from the Lum Berry Guild so I don't spend too much time out here.

Mayaka is pleasantly surprised when she sees who's the other Pokemon assigned to guard the teleporters this afternoon.

"Ren-kun!" She bounds up to him with a smile. "Have you had enough rest since we came back from the rescues?"

The grin on her face flattens as she scratches her head sheepishly.

"You and Akechi really helped me out a lot... not just with climbing the cliffs, but all the battles too. I should've been more helpful."

"Mayaka!" Ren greets her back with a smile, waving to her with his paw. "I'm good, I'm good. Glad to see you here."

And he is! Mayaka's a good quest buddy, and he feels like a decently solid friendship is starting to form between them. Somehow, he has the feeling that if he were back home, he'd have heard Lavenza in his ear already. I am thou, thou art I...

But that aside, his eyebrow raises a bit at her statement. He didn't think she did that badly, personally.

"You were plenty helpful," he says with a hum. "besides, practice makes perfect. You're still getting used to things, right? You'll get there, sooner than you think."

The smile turns into a bit of a smirk, and he puts his paw up to his chin, fluttering his lashes.

"We can't all have this much swagger from the get-go after stumbling out of the ocean in a new body."

He's clearly trying to make her laugh- the expression, on a Sprigatito, looks more adorable than cool.

Mayaka had wanted to sulk a bit more, insist that she's been around for half a year already, that she's had plenty of time to get used to things, and that she should try to get better at the stuff she dislikes so that she can be more reliable during quests...

Only for Ren's little stunt to completely distract her from the stuff that's been weighing on her mind, at least for now. Mayaka chuckles, genuinely amused, and thankful that he doesn't seem to hold anything against her.

"Heh. Looks like Ren-kun's a real charmer," she says jokingly. "I guess that's why Akechi likes you so much, huh?"

flower power w/ bigby ~

Before they arrived on the scene, Mayaka had insisted that she would show Bigby what she could do in battle today. She really needs to pull her weight more and get confident using her claws, so she's not going to rely on him at all! Besides, these are just little fairies and she's naturally resistant to Fairy-types.

However, upon seeing how frenzied and vicious, the Floette are behaving -- she winces as she catches one smacking the stem of its flower ruthlessly across a poor Aipom's head and knocking it out -- Mayaka stands before the fray and slowly turns her head to exchange a concerned look with the Morpeko.

"Uh... B-chan... why do they look scary?"

At least Bigby hardly seems phased. Despite his cuddly appearance, these are the types of quests he's most ready to handle. Even if they're extra aggressive, even if they're super effective again him, he's not planning to back away so quick.

But this isn't about him.

He fiddles with a seed in his paw, glancing up toward Mayaka with his brows furrowed. As far as a challenge goes, this should be fairly easy for her to handle. It's just a matter of getting her comfortable with a fight, much less using her claws.

"All Pokémon look scarier when they're battling. Even you will be." That's probably not something she'd like to hear. He pivots. "Uh. Just remember you've got the size advantage. All you have to do is focus on what you've been practicing."

She frowns at Bigby's comments, but sucks in her cheek and urges herself to move forward and get this over with.

"Know how far my claws can reach, be quick, pay attention to..."

As she's revising these notes in her head, her gaze is turned to the ground, so she doesn't notice the pair of rogue Floettes advancing towards her and Bigby from the back!
