Mm. That's how I feel about it. [ He lingers a bit on the idea, his mental image of a dodo growing obscenely large and terrifying. ] Even if they're dangerous, there's more to them than just that.

But, uh... d-dragons, huh? [ That got a bit uncomfortable real fast. It's a good thing dogs can't sweat. ] Th-the ones I know are a bit... different. Definitely some of the strongest creatures, but closer to an apex predator than anything else. [ He sighs at the thought of war between species, though. It really doesn't change, does it? ] Not that it makes much difference, really. A monster with that kind of intelligence... I'm sure humans back home would be even more fearful of them. [ A beat. ] But they'd probably be some of the most wonderful creatures to know.

[ Trotting along, he closes his eyes briefly in thought. ] I guess some parts are used for armor and the like. [ Dragon scales, for example, but he won't get into it. ] But using them for food is just so much rarer, and I really don't get it! I'm just glad to hear not all places are like that.

Oh. Well, if it isn't like the dragons I've met, it should be fine.

[Midgardsormr's stasis body in Silvertear Lake is bristling and he doesn't know why]

They are very interesting. I've had the pleasure to get to know a few myself, and even the youngest of them are intelligent and interested in all sorts of things just as mortals are. I even got to know one who wanted to learn how men use tools to craft and gather.

[She smiles at Laios's shift in mood, keeping up with him.] Well, it'd be silly to let something go to waste if it could be used.

Exactly! Monsters could be used for so many types of foods, too. I just know it would help a lot of people, but they still don't understand... [ Not yet, anyway! Laios could rant and rave all day, but the thought of talking with dragons offers an easy distraction. ]

Ah, wait, Firoza! You never mentioned you were friends with dragons too! So cool... [ There's a hint of childish jealousy in his tone, but it's lighthearted all the same. He simply has to live vicariously through her. ] Heh. Even ancient creatures would need help sewing with big claws, huh?

—oh. [ He stops dead in his tracks, twitching his nose. ] Do you smell that? It's... rancid. [ It doesn't smell natural, but he doesn't hear any other Pokémon rustling around. At least, not yet. ] Maybe the mushrooms Dr. Denne needs are around. Should we try looking?

There is always the chance they could learn, or come around to new ways of thinking. If given a push.

[The conversation drops, though, as Laios sniffs. Firoza does, too - and though her nose is not nearly as keen as his, a Nidoran's is still pretty good. She balks a little, snout wrinkling.]

Ugh...we ought to, yes. I think it's coming from that direction? [She points her head in the general area where the smell seems to waft from.]

[ Always a chance. He'll store that one away, for another time. Right now, though, he's focused on what the source of that smell might be. Laios nods at Firoza's direction, following her suggestion without much hesitation. Head lowered, he walks ahead cautiously, still unsure of what actually might be in store. ]

It's so quiet around here. [ His ears twitch, trying to catch the sound of any movement. ] If the mushrooms are causing strange behavior, I wonder if they scared most of the wild Pokémon off. [ A beat. ] Or the Pokémon all scared off each other.

Maybe a mix of both?

[Creeps cautiously forward, checking where she steps in case there's an errant mushroom that she doesn't want to step on. It'd be like one of those puffball mushrooms, fwoom]

But 'tis eerie, the lack of sound...let's make haste and collect what we can.

It's a little disappointing. [ That probably doesn't sound right. Let him rephrase. ] I mean, just knowing how badly these shrooms are affecting everything. [ Not much better, but he treads carefully with her, pressing his snout low to the ground.

He stops briefly to lift his head, one paw digging at the ground. ] Look at that! Something sprouted here. [ His head tilts at Firoza, before looking back at the small shroom. ] It's... not an edible one is it?

Hm? Let me see...

[Gonna take a look at it and give it a delicate, tentative sniff.]

Hn...it's not like those others, but...I'm not sure if it's edible. I haven't seen a mushroom like this before.

[Watch it just be a Morelull vibing in the dirt.]

[ He paws at it once Firoza finishes her inspection. ]

... It’s a really strange color, too. [ Almost pinkish, now that he really looks at it. Interesting. ] That wasn’t how Dr. Denne described the ones we need, right?

[ And right on cue, a root suddenly breaks through the surface, wrapping itself around his paw. ] Uh? [ He can’t. Pull free. What was that about a possible Morelull. ]

Ah-!

[Firoza jumps, not expecting the attack - and then jumps to action, reaching out to Scratch at the base of the root that has nabbed Laios. It hits more dirt than root, but whatever's down there seems to make a frustrated noise and begin wriggling. Whether it lets go of Laios or not is the question...]

[ As Firoza goes in for a Scratch, Laios pulls a bit harder, hoping to make the root easier to hit when taut. It lands easily enough, forcing it to lessen its grip as it wriggles in response. He’s not entirely free, but it gives him room to lean in for a Bite.

A strange rumble follows after his teeth sink in, and the root snaps right in his mouth. With that, the little bit of the mushroom sticking out of the ground seems to bury itself deeper, no longer in view. Immediately, Laios spits the root out, much more sensitive to the bitterness than he remembers being. ]

... Hn. I guess that wasn’t it. Let’s hope there’s not more of those around? [ He would like to see them, eventually, but, priorities. ] I’ll try to avoid that scent for now, at least!

Well, we know for the future. Are you alright?

[She can't even cast Clemency if he needs it this is bullshit]
