[ His smile doesn't waver, but he does tilt his head at being gently corrected. Laios is just glad Flowey seems to be enjoying himself after looking so glum back in Skull Town lately.

When he notices the birthday boy looking at his birthday gift, his expression seems to light up all over again. ]

You're really hard to find a present for, but I couldn't just show up empty-handed! [ Maybe a little too blunt, even for him, but he laughs it off. ] Here, I can get it out for you, actually. It's a bit sharp.

[ A beat. ]

Buuut... no peeking until it's on!

[ He's going to be weirdly adamant about this. Close your eyes, Flowey! Don't think about what it might be! ]

Aw, shucks, Laios. You... didn't have to! [Maybe Laios changed his mind about eating him. Gulp.] Umm...

... by the way, for no reason at all, I think I taste really bad. Like, nausea-inducing bad. Just saying.

[With that, he closes his eyes. He trusts Laios. Right?]

[ Fangs finally peek through as his smile only gets wider. Flowey can be real funny sometimes. ]

You know— [ He moves closer in a half-circle, dragging the bag slowly in the dirt. His voice gets lower. ] —I've always liked that about plants. They're so versatile when faced with the same problem.

[ Does his breath feel warm against your back, Flowey? Do you hear the gnashing of sharp teeth as he rips into the bag behind you? ]

Toxins, irritants... a bitter taste. [ He pulls out something that seems to clink against itself as he does. ] But animals are just as adaptable. Resistances. Immunities. [ There's a soft hum to his words now. ] Funny how hunger can be such a powerful motivator in nature, don't you think?

[ Carefully, he begins to wrap that something around Flowey's body multiple times, squeezing tighter and tighter until he's sure it's on nice and secure. ]

[ It’s a necklace? belt? sash? adorned with Sharpedo teeth, all threaded together courtesy of a few Joltiks. ]

I can’t help you with toxins, but I can at least give you thorns until you get bigger. Now you’ll be even more unappetizing out in the wild!

[ Laios also thinks it makes him look really cool but he doesn't say that out loud. ]

You really like it? [ Practically radiating pride and joy right now. Or maybe that's just some excess static. ] I figured you could use something special for quests. Being a seed is tough without some extra defenses! [ Alleged bad taste aside. Nnnnot that he's thinking of confirming that for himself one day! ]

Did you know Sharpedos could rip through entire ships with those teeth? No way any wild Pokémon will give you trouble now.

[ Threatening people over Grumpearl is one thing, but this... there's something weirdly familiar endearing about this, even if it's a little cringe. ]

Sharpedos re-grow them pretty regularly, so they wash up on shore a lot. If you just know where to look, they're easy to dig for! I should show you sometime... We'll just have to go through some of my tunnels for the best spots...

I'm not afraid of tunnels. They used to be my primary way of getting around before I came here! [Now he's stuck hopping.] Just don't tell me you're keeping any bones you buried in there!

[ Suddenly, he forgot how to talk. ]

[He proceeds to throw it. It does go out the door of his room. Fortunately for Laios, it remains on one of the raised walkways and doesn't require him to go jumping down to the forest floor.]

[ Oh, that's a conveniently placed ball Flowey's got there. ]

[ What's he doing with that anyway? ] Wait, don't—! [ Where ball go? Ball? Ball?? Ball????? ]

[ A flash of yellow fur zooms out the door. He's gone. ]

[As soon as he comes back with the ball, Flowey rears back...
