1. Right Behind You

Yelling from the training rooms is sometimes par for the course for the sound of exertion and combat. What probably is less common is short screams of varying tones.

Anyone who investigates will find Kinger, circling a training dummy while making short yelps and screams, attempting to Astonish the dummy. He sounds like he's starting to get a little hoarse, but he is singularly focused on the dummy and doesn't notice when you approach.

2. Sea Seeking King

Despite having a body that, for the first time in decades, probably needs sleep, a few nights in to his stay he can't. His newly tiny stature gives him the luxury that few others in Oran housing have, which is to sneak out without waking his roommates. Probably.

He wanders his way outside to stand at the cliffside, feeling the cold spray of saltwater from the ocean. He laughs to himself quietly.

"It's real. I'm not in the circus anymore."

He sits near the cliffside, just enjoying the delicate feeling of salty autumn air that nothing in the digital world could possibly replicate. He lets off a faint glow, making himself visible to anyone else restless tonight.

[ Ingo's something of a mainstay in the Oran Berry training rooms! He doesn't do a great deal of his own training here - fire isn't best suited for enclosed chambers - but he's found that his advice can be helpful for those new arrivals that used to be human. There's only a few of them with a human's perspective on Pokemon, after all!

This isn't a species he recognizes. Astonish is familiar, though. ]

Hello! Are you one of the new arrivals?

[ Ingo is. Like a million times Kinger's height, boy. ]

Agh!

[Kinger is startled in the middle of attempting some sort of combat roll around the training dummy. Which mostly involved him flopping on the floor and moving along like an inchworm behind it. A small puff of spectral energy is let out in Ingo's direction as Kinger shouts, but it's blocked by the dummy before it reaches him.]

Oh! Yes, I'm Kinger. I'm practicing my signature Purple Yell technique!

[Kinger sounds very proud of working on one of the most widespread and weakest Pokémon moves, but he's got the spirit?]

Ah, that is excellent!

[ The execution may leave something to be desired, but. That's fair. ]

Astonish can cause other Pokemon to flinch, so you could use it to help escape unwanted battle!

Oh that's what it's called. Catchier than Purple Yell.

[Kinger thinks for a second.]

Somebody told me that's... a ghost type move? I should probably learn some mushroom or royal type moves...

[offtracks]

Those are not typings! There are only sixteen of them - your species is not familiar to me, but I imagine you are at least partially a grass-type!

[ And what else? Ghost? He has the color palette for it, but Ingo still wouldn't want to say so definitively. ]

Pokemon can learn moves outside of their own typings, so you may not be a ghost-type as well...it would take some testing, I suppose!

[Kinger looks up at what are very clearly mushrooms.]

Grass... Am I some sort of wheat man? Corn man!? No wonder Jax didn't stick around... How do we test it?

[offtracks]

Jax...? [ Hm, well, maybe beside the point. ] I could try using a normal-type move on you and see if it hits! Ghost-types are immune to such damage! I'm afraid it is a little difficult to test without a bit of sparring, though...

I'm up for sparring, I can take it!

[Kinger says this very confidently, ignoring the fact that scale-wise he is effectively a human trying to spar with Godzilla.]

[offtracks]

Very well!

[ Pokemon do be like that sometimes! Ingo's careful, though, just sort of half-heartedly using Scratch. ]

[0dchess]

Ack! [Kinger yelps slightly as the scratch hits him.] Nope, not a ghost!

[Kinger thinks really hard for a second, trying to get two brain cells to spark and pull up a memory.]

When Mightyena recruited me, I think she knew what kind of Pokémon I was?

[offtracks]

Yes, I suppose she would know.

[ It's slightly distracted, as Ingo fishes a dried Oran berry out of his bags. He pretty much always has some of those around. ]

Here, eat this! It ought to heal you entirely! If it does not, I have more!

Oh, thank you!

[Kinger pops the berry into his nonexistent mouth, and processes Ingo's reaction.]

Do you not like Mightyena?

[offtracks]

Not at all! She is an excellent leader!

[ He didn't mean it like that! ]

Great to hear! I haven't had a good leader in a while. I sort of remember liking some guy with a saxophone back on Earth, can't remember his name...

[Kinger thinks for a second, then realizes something.]

I never caught your name, either!

[offtracks]

[ A saxophone? Ingo isn't sure if that's a different-world thing or a future one. ]

My name is Ingo! It is excellent to meet you!

It's nice to meet you too! You're kind of an expert on this stuff too, you must be a local. If not, you're a quick learner!

[offtracks]

I am not a local, but I am from a world much like this one, with Pokemon in it! I worked very closely with them, though I am human myself.

[ Am? Was? Probably "am"; Ingo feels strange claiming to be a Pokemon now when there's Pokemon all around who have been so their entire lives. ]

Oh! So there are worlds with humans and Pokémon. I wonder if that means there are humans here.

[Kinger gets a concerned look on his face.]

I wonder if among those humans, there are Pokémon from other worlds who got transformed!

[offtracks]

Ah! That would be very strange for them!

[ Better or worse than the reverse? Ingo's not sure... ]

I wonder if they would be able to speak human languages right away, as we have been!

Do Pokémon... normally not talk in your world?

[Are Pokémon more like animals elsewhere?]

[offtracks]

Some might, like powerful psychic-types or Chatot! But overall, no. I imagine they can speak with each other much as they do here, though!

[ It's just different! The fact that some can learn to speak human tongues, though, indicates to Ingo that they probably already do have some kind of language. ]

(sprinkles in a touch of dramatic irony knowing the upcoming IC discourse)

A shared language? Well, that's a relief, that probably means they're not eating each other if they can talk to each other. I was worried since I hadn't seen any regular animals around that people might start trying to eat each other here!

Of course Pokemon eat each other!

[ Sort of confused, like - what else would they eat? They are not all herbivores! ]

Are. Are Pokémon and humans the only living creatures where you're from?

[Followed by a more pressing question.]

Are they the only living creatures here...?

They are! Well, I suppose plants are living...

[ But that's a whole other thing, isn’t it? ]
