At 7am sharp every morning, the city comes fully alive with the posting and highlighting of new quests! Of course, the questboard is something that should always be checked, with rescue missions always a possibility outside of normal update times, but there's something special and heartwarming about the way the entire city comes together this same time each day, just to see what they can do to help one another.

Upon joining their guilds, newcomers have been invited to take a look at the quests themselves. There are rankings they'll have to concern themselves with, after all. Today is a special day, because the newcomers have now officially all been added to the member ranking roster! They are all listed under their respective guilds at the very bottom, sporting a nice 0 points so far. Don't worry, no one's judging them yet. Currently, the guild leaders are at the top rank of their respective guilds. As far as guild ranking, Lum Berries are the top guild, followed by Oran, and lastly by Cheri.

The quests themselves are pinned to the wooden board securely, hanging in clear view with the following information listed for each: quest giver, difficulty level (1-3 stars), rewards (points and/or items, plot mentions obviously are not there), and a message from the quest giver. As for the currently available quests...

GUILDS

Many newcomers already seem to be settling into their respective guilds, and it's left the city with an optimistic energy buzzing around! Each guild has their own unique way of handling things, but all three come together in a way that benefits Bottlecap Bay as a whole, and the newcomers seem to be blending in quite well, despite those worrying nightmares from before.

Acceptance comes with new responsibilities, though, and there are a number of things that each guild expects or requests of their new members.

Lum Berries are straight to work recording information about the latest storm, as well as the newcomers and their nightmares. Polteageist requests that the newcomers in this guild pull their weight by gathering as much information as they can about each newcomer in the other guilds and help record this. Physical descriptors are important, but so are their dreams, their personalities, their beliefs, and so on. It can be hard to dump this sort of information on just anyone, so do try and make some friends if that's what it takes. Beyond that, the results of the exploration quest recently posted will become important, as Lum Berry members will be consulted on the next steps.

Cheri Berries first hold a group celebration of their new members in the Canopy where they'll be spending so much of their time. After a lot of great food and silly icebreaking games, Ribombee will personally thank everyone and mention his quest posting, implying that guild members should try to help not just with their own guild quest, but others. In addition to that, duties will be split across the new recruits, and everyone will find themselves with a schedule of berry gathering, scouting, and monitoring the forest growth and ecosystem health. Busy busy!

Oran Berries are having a month long celebration for its new members. Meals are already held together, but they're made extra special and fancy this month, straight out of Mightyena's metaphorical pocket! She's working overtime to provide for her little Oran Berries. Members are encouraged to help out in the mines, but more than that, are told to enroll in fighting classes, as well as potentially host some of their own to fellow newcomers. No one understands the struggles of adapting to a new body quite like someone already going through it, right? The city is relying on you!

NIGHTMARE RESOLUTIONS
( PLEASE SEE THIS THREAD )

As mentioned on the TDM, characters who have not shared their doubts or feelings with another still have had their nightmares vanish by February 10th. Since then, not a single report of nightmares has been sent in to the Pokeclinic or the Archives. Isn't that great?

More perceptive characters may notice a sense of foreboding despite this calm, however. The more the month goes on, the more a nagging feeling surfaces at the back of every mind. Aren't you forgetting something? The feeling gets more intense, overwhelmingly so, and nothing seems to help with it.

Please respond to this thread below indicating whether your character shared their emotions to relieve the nightmares, or whether they timed out. There's a helpful little form, so go ahead and fill it out as soon as you can! Once we have everyone's info, we'll get back to you all with an update.

⟡ Guild and member rankings will be more properly displayed hopefully next month! Since no player character has any points yet, we did not make that a priority. As of right now, we will be tracking your points, but we recommend keeping your own tracking somewhere as well in case we mess up.

A. Questboard

Seeing the city buzz to life truly is an astonishing sight. An entire crowd, gathering to check the board... Even if it weren't for his new guild membership, the board would draw his interest by virtue of its role as a central pillar in the city. Naturally, he flutters over to investigate. Now that he's had time to adjust to his new body, sustaining a hover isn't too hard.

Lum being the most prestigious... Oran in the middle. Not quite the under dog, but not an elite. For the first time in quite a while, Akechi is not famous. He has zero points to his name, yet there's something oddly enticing about this blank slate...

So many objectives. So many ways to prove himself.

As others gather, he can't help but muses aloud, "Does anything catch your eye?" It'll make for interesting conversation, certainly, and gauge the convictions of those around him.

B. Feast

The celebratory feast leaves Akechi speechless. All this, for a ragtag group of strays... From what he's seen of Mightyena, it's not too surprising, yet the generosity still gives him pause.

At meal time, he looks at the offerings tentatively. This must have cost quite a bit, and there are so many mouths to feed. What's an appropriate amount? Akechi typically only grazes. He's so busy with work that he has little time to indulge, outside of social obligations.

His new body is small, yet flying takes quite a bit of energy.

In other words, he's staring at the meal as if overwhelmed with choice paralysis. Perhaps he just needs a gentle nudge.

C. Training

If Akechi is to excel in this new world and this new form, that means applying himself. Birds are aerial creatures. Mining might prove difficult, but he refuses to loaf about.

As such, he can be found actively engaged in the fighting classes, trying his best to master aerial maneuvers and learning to use his wings, beak, and talons to the fullest.

As others join the classes, he flashes a challenging smirk. "Care to put your skills to the test?"

Firepaw is still not great at table manners - and by that, I mean he is stepping on the table to get where he's going. One of the real Pokemon corrects him, but he just walks along the ground until he spots Akechi and jumps up on the table in front of him.

"Hey." He mumbles around some kind of cooked meat that looks like a chicken wing, before putting it down near Akechi's food. "Do you want to share this? I don't... know if you eat meat. But I thought I would offer."

That's... a wing. They are serving meat here.

Akechi's eyes lock on the meat, and he places a wing below his beak. Really, the prospect of eating bird meat isn't an issue. "Birds can be fairly opportunistic eaters. Even the little ones will feast on carrion when given the chance."

But where did it come from? Is it donated from hospitals? Is there something more at play?

The gears in his head keep turning. It's a mystery, after all.

Firepaw pauses, waiting for Akechi to actually answer him, and after a while his bushy whiskers start twitching with amusement.

"So... do you want some?"

He's assuming yes, if Akechi's putting that much thought into it, so he nudges it a little closer and starts nibbling on the further end of it. Whatever bird it's from, it's delicious - although it's missing the bloody flavor of freshkill. Eventually he's going to have to go hunting for himself, but he's starting to dread it.

"Very well." He looks at the meat, squinting, before pecking off a tiny piece. At least by now, he's used to his lack of teeth. Instead, he tips his head back, letting his gizzard do the work. "Be grateful you still have teeth. Eating like this has been quite the adjustment."

But the meat is flavorful, and he takes another peck at it.

"I hadn't thought of that." He mumbles, licking his chops before going in for another bite. "I haven't really had to get used to anything about my new body... except for having black fur, I guess."

And breathing fire.

He's eating much faster than Akechi can, so he takes a break to groom his face. And while he's at it... "Have you thought of taking any of the quests?"

"I'm actually interested in quite a few." He pecks again. After all that time spent eating pastries and fruit, it's certainly different eating something like this. "The missions are an excellent opportunity to get a greater feel for this world and prove ourselves in the process."

[firealone]

"I feel the same way... funny enough, one of my other friends and I were talking before they went up about exploring outside of the city. Now it looks like we have a great excuse."

"That we do." He lifts one of his wings, smirking. "Very few of us have wings, but the freedom of flight would lend itself quite well to navigating the terrain..."

Except the mines. Birds and tunnels don't exactly mesh well, even if a stubborn part of him is tempted to try anyway.

When she first approached the questboard, Shoka had only been intending to give it the most perfunctory of look-overs. She may be part of a guild now, but a sense of apathy persists; if she has to pick up something to keep her bed in the Spire, she'll just look for the easiest request on the board and half-ass her way through it.

Truthfully, however, one of the quests has caught her eye. One requester name stands out, drawing her eye to it, then inevitably to the quest description itself...

She's only just finished reading it (very carefully, her interest perhaps made obvious by how long she spends standing there, focused and unmoving) when Akechi appears beside her.

"What's it to you?" Her phrasing is as rude as always, but her tone isn't entirely unfriendly. "Looking for somebody to drag along into another one of your investigations?"

[truthdecided]

Oh, be as rude as you want, Shoka. Akechi flashes her a smirk, utterly unfazed. "It's an excellent opportunity to find our footing in this world, not to mention a chance to prove ourselves."

He flutters up to the top of the board. "We're starting from nothing. I rather like the idea of catapulting to the top and destroying the status quo."

There's a certain thrill. An exhilaration that makes his heart race with excitement.

"I'll take that as a 'yes'."

Not unlike in their first meeting, she is matching absolutely none of his energy. Her disinterest in catapulting to the top is already obvious, but something does make her pause and study him then as he sits perched atop all the quests.

"Well, Your Highness, a real go-getter like you should have no problem taking on this one then, right?"

She snakes out one of her tentacular arms and points a claw at the quest posted under the name Swellow.

"Says it's at the Canopy, so I bet your wings would come in handy."

He looks down. Thankfully, birds have keen eyesight, so it's quite easy to single it out. "So what you're saying is that you require my assistance."

Heh. Come to think of it, so few of them have wings in the first place. "Very well. As I understand it, these missions require teams, anyway."

Not to mention, it is more practical this way.

"More like whoever Swellow is requires our assistance."

But she's not saying no. As Akechi points out, these quests all require teams, and they're already in the same guild, right? It just makes sense.

(Inwardly, she genuinely appreciates it.)

"Then it's settled. We're headed to the Canopy." Right now, apparently, since she's already shuffling off and gesturing with a lazy motion of her claws for Akechi to follow her. Granted, the description did include a sense of urgency. "Says we'll be tracking down some missing medicine... Don't suppose you've picked up any Pokémedical know-how through your detective work?"

"If it's medicine, it should be easy enough to identify. A bird's eye view may serve us well in that regard." Which is why he hops off his perch and flaps his way behind her. "While herbs can and are often used as a basis for medicine, I imagine we're looking for something more specific. A package, a bundle... Something clearly prescribed."

"Hope so..."

As it turns out, he's absolutely right. When they arrive at the Canopy, Swellow (who is, true to what Shoka was imagining, basically just an enormous barn swallow) is there to provide a description of the medicine. It's red and long—worm-shaped, to make it more palatable to Taillow. Distinctive though its design is, it's also small; it won't be easy to track down.

They can, however, at least begin narrowing down spots to search. Neither Swellow or anyone from the Cheri Berry guild had been able to find it, so Shoka and Akechi agree to search beyond the bounds of the guild.

Shoka is unusually focused, keeping her snarking to a relative minimum. She and Akechi make a good team, actually, able to scan each area efficiently with him scouting from the air while she searches nooks and crannies lower to the ground. Eventually, somewhere between the Canopy and the coast, they near a clearing.

"Still nothing down here." Pausing to hop up onto a low-hanging branch, Shoka calls up to Akechi, "Well? What do your Rookidee-eyes see?"

Finally, there is something ahead, visible to him through the thinning trees: a spot of stark red. It appears to be whole and unattended, though he might notice that the earth around it appears to be disturbed, as if something large had been burrowing into it recently.

Akechi squints, soaring closer to that strange red spot. "I think I see the medicine, but there are signs of tunneling activity around it."

Which means that, in all likelihood, there are Pokémon in the area, much too close to their target to merely take it.

He swoops down, perching on a branch, and peers down at Shoka. "We may want to exercise caution as we approach."

Akechi is willing to fight, but they don't even know what made those burrows.

"Ah, well...the lost Teddiursa concerns me greatly, but I am not well-suited to help with such a search any longer..." Really, even when he was a human, Ingo was an average swimmer; trying to rescue someone from the ocean would have been a difficult task indeed. Now that he's a fire-type, it feels nigh impossible. He's not as at-risk as many, but being submerged for too long does seem to make him feel unwell.

He taps his claws, scanning the other pages. What an odd way to hand out work! "Foraging sounds simple enough! That is what I did for most of my early days in Hisui!"

"Indeed, it's an important skill to develop in a community!"

Alastor had appeared from the shadows, as he was always wont to do, with a chuckle. Inviting himself into the conversation like he'd always been there. "And the offerings have been decent, but lack finesse. Let's say we make an effort to collect a more refined selection. Snacking on fruits is far from how I want to resume my time here, after all. Mother would be rolling in her grave, bless her soul, if I did that!"

Well, that sure is an unexpected intrusion. Akechi's eyes blink wide open for a moment, but at least he doesn't jump. He may be small, but he's not a coward.

Foraging does sound simple, though. An easy quest to get a feel for his new body as well. "Then what would you propose? They clearly want berries, so whatever else we gather should be in addition to and not a replacement for the requested items."

Ingo turns to the new arrival with a frown, although it is the exact same frown he was wearing before. A Banette, hm? It's curious how common ghost-types are among their number.

"Refined? Surely that is in the preparation, in any case? Though we can certainly search for more than just berries! It is still quite early for any spring plants, but the climate here seems so much milder than Hisui...we may still prove fortunate! And there may be some late mushrooms left, provided that they're a type I can identify." If they aren't, he's leaving them; he's seen how that goes.

[sugaronthecream]

"Mushrooms indeed! Maybe rummage around the river - you can hardly make an étouffée without shrimps or crawdads!" Alastor guffawed happily, leaning his elbow on Akechi's round head. "Ah, memories, having to forage out in the bayou where at least the deer are free to hunt. One would be stunned how a community struggles to hold together when food is scarce! Wouldn't want that to happen to this plucky little paradise!"

Akechi's eye twitches. He rather likes his personal space, thank you. Still, because it isn't just the two of them, he tries to keep his feathers from fluffing up. He tries to keep cool. This is just a minor annoyance. Emphasis on annoyance.

"We'll need to ensure the mushrooms aren't toxic, if we do forage them. There's also a high likelihood that any aquatic life we find would be sapient and put up a fight." Not that Akechi hasn't murdered before, and hunting is rather ordinary for animals. "We need to tread carefully, lest we be considered criminals and end up on wanted posters."

"Indeed! I'd encourage you not to touch them at all if I cannot identify them. And I would not suggest hunting right now!"

Fishing is actually pretty familiar to Ingo. He does a lot more of that than of actual hunting; most people do. Here, though, everything is so different! Including.......this Banette......Ingo's rather quietly relieved not to be the one getting manhandled there. He also certainly doesn't need to be lectured about lack of food, but he's not going to say so to a total stranger. "It's beyond the remit of this mission anyhow. If they wish for meat, they must have their own ways of obtaining it."

"Oh, of course, exercising the utmost respect and caution!" Alastor chuckled in amusement before reaching for Ingo's paw to shake it. "Alastor, by the by! Pleasure to be meeting you, quite a pleasure! I've already met our little bird friend here."
