At 7am sharp every morning, the city comes fully alive with the posting and highlighting of new quests! Of course, the questboard is something that should always be checked, with rescue missions always a possibility outside of normal update times, but there's something special and heartwarming about the way the entire city comes together this same time each day, just to see what they can do to help one another.

Upon joining their guilds, newcomers have been invited to take a look at the quests themselves. There are rankings they'll have to concern themselves with, after all. Today is a special day, because the newcomers have now officially all been added to the member ranking roster! They are all listed under their respective guilds at the very bottom, sporting a nice 0 points so far. Don't worry, no one's judging them yet. Currently, the guild leaders are at the top rank of their respective guilds. As far as guild ranking, Lum Berries are the top guild, followed by Oran, and lastly by Cheri.

The quests themselves are pinned to the wooden board securely, hanging in clear view with the following information listed for each: quest giver, difficulty level (1-3 stars), rewards (points and/or items, plot mentions obviously are not there), and a message from the quest giver. As for the currently available quests...

GUILDS
( YOU CAN OPTIONALLY THREAD WITH GUILD LEADERS HERE )

Many newcomers already seem to be settling into their respective guilds, and it's left the city with an optimistic energy buzzing around! Each guild has their own unique way of handling things, but all three come together in a way that benefits Bottlecap Bay as a whole, and the newcomers seem to be blending in quite well, despite those worrying nightmares from before.

Acceptance comes with new responsibilities, though, and there are a number of things that each guild expects or requests of their new members.

Lum Berries are straight to work recording information about the latest storm, as well as the newcomers and their nightmares. Polteageist requests that the newcomers in this guild pull their weight by gathering as much information as they can about each newcomer in the other guilds and help record this. Physical descriptors are important, but so are their dreams, their personalities, their beliefs, and so on. It can be hard to dump this sort of information on just anyone, so do try and make some friends if that's what it takes. Beyond that, the results of the exploration quest recently posted will become important, as Lum Berry members will be consulted on the next steps.

Cheri Berries first hold a group celebration of their new members in the Canopy where they'll be spending so much of their time. After a lot of great food and silly icebreaking games, Ribombee will personally thank everyone and mention his quest posting, implying that guild members should try to help not just with their own guild quest, but others. In addition to that, duties will be split across the new recruits, and everyone will find themselves with a schedule of berry gathering, scouting, and monitoring the forest growth and ecosystem health. Busy busy!

Oran Berries are having a month long celebration for its new members. Meals are already held together, but they're made extra special and fancy this month, straight out of Mightyena's metaphorical pocket! She's working overtime to provide for her little Oran Berries. Members are encouraged to help out in the mines, but more than that, are told to enroll in fighting classes, as well as potentially host some of their own to fellow newcomers. No one understands the struggles of adapting to a new body quite like someone already going through it, right? The city is relying on you!

NIGHTMARE RESOLUTIONS
( PLEASE SEE THIS THREAD )

As mentioned on the TDM, characters who have not shared their doubts or feelings with another still have had their nightmares vanish by February 10th. Since then, not a single report of nightmares has been sent in to the Pokeclinic or the Archives. Isn't that great?

More perceptive characters may notice a sense of foreboding despite this calm, however. The more the month goes on, the more a nagging feeling surfaces at the back of every mind. Aren't you forgetting something? The feeling gets more intense, overwhelmingly so, and nothing seems to help with it.

Please respond to this thread below indicating whether your character shared their emotions to relieve the nightmares, or whether they timed out. There's a helpful little form, so go ahead and fill it out as soon as you can! Once we have everyone's info, we'll get back to you all with an update.

⟡ Guild and member rankings will be more properly displayed hopefully next month! Since no player character has any points yet, we did not make that a priority. As of right now, we will be tracking your points, but we recommend keeping your own tracking somewhere as well in case we mess up.

Firepaw | Warrior Cats

Gathering and Hunting (OTA to anyone gathering but especially Junpei)

[Firepaw is mostly following behind Junpei, although he's also wandering off occasionally. If they were patrolling he would be following closer, but he's used to hunting alone and it feels better to follow the scent of berries, grab what he can carry and bring it back to Junpei. But he is trying his best to stay nearby, most of the time.

At some point, though, he gets distracted by the sounds of wildlife. High-pitched noises, just like mice or birds, that make his skin tingle and his claws itch to come out. Before he knows it, he's wandered off fairly far from Junpei, and is crouching down to try and stalk a Fletchling. Maybe you spot him and manage to stop him, or maybe you run across him right after his killing pounce - he's far too focused to notice anyone approaching, either way.]

Save Purrloin! (Closed to Akechi and Ren)

[It was Firepaw's idea to go look for Purrloin. Of course he had to, it was yet another excuse to talk to another cat. He also volunteered to hold onto the berry for her, carrying it in his teeth and trying not to think about how tasty it smells. It feels a little like carrying herbs for the medicine cat back home, especially when she needed catnip.

At some point he has to drop it to speak, and awkwardly cradles it in his paw so that it doesn't have to touch the ground.]

Hold on - I think I hear someone nearby.

Swimming, Theoretically (OTA)

[A few people have been giving Firepaw pointers on how to swim, as best as they can without much knowledge of quadruped motion. Ingo also told him specifically not to spend too long in the water, but that's um. Not important. So he's been practicing on his own, swimming a few yards out to sea and then back to shore, as many times as he can handle, with his improvised doggy paddle.

After about thirty minutes of that, Firepaw ends up laying down on the beach and coughing up sea-water, feeling a little dizzy and feverish. But he's stubbornly determined to try again, as soon as he stops coughing. Someone should probably stop him.]

Save Purrloin!

[Akechi hovers in the airs, eyes narrowing. He may lack Firepaw's enhanced hearing, but with his small size, he'd rather not take chances.]

We'd best brace ourselves. For all we know, Purrloin's attacker lurks nearby.

[At least he's already airbound. That should give them a slight advantage.]

[Ren's ears twitch, listening for Firepaw's warning- and indeed, he thinks he hears the sound of a struggle. Low meowing? It's distant, but nearby enough for his enhanced hearing to pick up. His nose twitches instinctively as well, but he's not used enough to the scents yet to say what they mean.]

I hear it too, [he says, ears swiveling towards the source, his head following soon after.] I think there's someone... that way?

[He turns to Firepaw.]

I can smell something too, I think, but... I can't tell what it means.

[firealone]

[Firepaw lowers his head, and opens his mouth to smell better. It takes some effort to ignore the scent of the berry he's holding onto, and focus ahead of them to the... the two Pokemon, although both are smells he isn't very familiar with yet.]

Smells like... cats, one of them smells sort of like a RiverClan cat, and one of them smells like... Liepard. That must be Purrloin.

[Before he takes the berry in his mouth again, he glances up at Akechi.]

Do you think you could fly ahead and see exactly where they are, without them seeing you?

I'll do my best.

[Stealth is hardly new to Akechi, though stealthy flying is certainly new. Nonetheless, he tries his best to remain in shadow, perching in the cover of leaves to better camouflage himself.

What he sees is troubling, to say the least.

A larger cat circling around the Purrloin. The fluffed up fur on Purrloin signals clear distress, but the Persian seems entirely unaware, even smiling at the distressed, injured kitten.

Troublesome...

Once he's seen enough, he returns to his teammates, scowling.]

The Persian seems disoriented, to say the least. We'll want to tread carefully in our approach.

[colorsflyinghigh]

[Ren hums to himself- were he still human, he'd probably be crossing his arms. He looks pensive, murmuring to himself.]

Disoriented... I wonder if they're aware that they're hurting Purrloin.

[Hmm... from just that description, he can't easily come up with anything. He needs to see for himself.]

We'll need to get closer, regardless. Let's take stock of the situation, and come up with a plan.

[firealone]

Right... [Firepaw murmurs around the berry, dropping low to the ground and tapping Ren's shoulder with his tail, for him to follow suit.] Follow me, and be careful not to step on any twigs.

[Talking around the berry is hard, but he doesn't want to drop it again in case it gets dirty. He creeps forward, until he can hear the Persian speaking as she prowls around "It's okay, my baby, I'll keep you safe, just stay with me..."

Firepaw's ears go back, and he tries his best to whisper.]

I can try and distract her, if you think you can bring Purrloin the berry.

Swimming, Theoretically

[telewarped]

[Shoka is on her way back to the Spire when she spots him, just early enough in his practice for her to see him paddle his way out into the water, then back to shore, in a manner that seems entirely purposeful. He did mention before that he wanted to learn how to swim, but he's out here trying all by himself? In the same ocean that nearly swallowed them all up?

She sighs to herself, considering going down there to give him a piece of her mind and tell him that the concept of spotters exists for a reason—and it's then that he collapses into the sand.]

Firepaw!

[She makes a beeline for him as fast as her legless form will allow, leaping and shuffling until she's at his side. He's coughing up seawater on his own—still breathing, at least.]

Hey... You good?

[firealone]

[He reacts like a burglar hit with a spotlight - although in slow motion, and even his hackles rise weirdly slow. He coughs up another mouthful of water, and tries to rise up but ends up just slumping on the ground.]

Could be better.

[Okay, Ingo was right and he was very lucky not to swallow water during the storm.]

[telewarped]

Yeah, I bet.

[Closing the distance between them, she delicately fits her ghostly hands beneath him and tries to pull him upright—just enough to lean him against her and keep him propped up with her disguise-head.]

C'mon, lean against me—and keep coughing. You'll be okay.

[Ghost-types generally don't offer much in the way of warmth, but her disguise rag is dry, at least, already starting to soak up seawater from his fur.]

[firealone]

[He leans on her gratefully, although he's trying to carry as much of his weight as he can manage. It's around now that it really clicks, that her disguise head is definitely not part of her, but it's a fleeting thought that gets replaced by the sheer effort of getting himself further up the beach.]

Thanks for finding me. [He starts purring softly.] I think... I probably need to take a break from swimming, for a while.

[telewarped]

[She snorts.] No kidding. You're lucky I found you before you wound up as a quest on the board.

[What's that sound? Oh—it's him, purring. She sighs, and her tone softens when she continues:]

Dummy. You could've at least told someone you were gonna try this...

[firealone]

[The thought of someone having to go rescue him is, really, what makes him fully deflate. He should know better, ThunderClan has rules against going into dangerous situations alone.]

I didn't think it would be that bad. [Which isn't much of an excuse, and he knows it.] I just thought... it's been a moon since we got here, and I didn't feel like I was getting better fast enough. We might get another storm, and I can't even swim well when it's sunny out.

[He coughs again, and a shiver runs all the way from his chest to his tail.]

[ Junpei has been fitted with a little basket on his back, complete with a lid to make sure none of the precious cargo falls out. At least two Pokemon for this task was a must, considering he's not flexible enough to put things in the basket on his own. Stupid adorable chunky legs.

So when he does find a berry and plucks it, he needs Firepaw's help to get it in the basket.

... and then Firepaw isn't there. And he's stuck with a mouthful of berry. ]

Fiyahpah??? Wha di oo go?

[ He really doesn't like the idea of being alone with a basket full of berries, so he carefully trundles along trying to spot the cat in the foliage. ]

[firealone]

[Firepaw can hear Junpei - and he can tell that something's in his mouth, so he really needs to hurry. He is fairly close - probably close enough that Junpei will hear the cat chattering, and then a startled squawk from the Fletchling he pounced on.

Less than a minute later, Firepaw comes back, dragging along a dead bird that is nearly as large as himself. His tail and his ears are held high with pride, and his fur is all puffed up. He does have to drop it to speak.]

I'm right here! Hey - do you think this'll fit in your basket?

[moondregs]

[ The berry in Junpei’s mouth tumbles to the ground as he’s left gaping at the cat’s catch.

To his credit, he doesn’t scream. He doesn’t lecture. He doesn’t run away. He’s seen dead birds before. He’s watched more gorey horror movies than he can count. He’s seen humans so disfigured by cursed energy they look like surrealist paintings.

But he can’t quite stop himself from saying the main thought running through his head. ]

This … is probably not good.

[firealone]

[Firepaw's tail doesn't entirely drop, but it falls to half-mast.]

Do you think it's too big?

[He's still running high on cat instincts, so the reasons why this might be bad aren't completely clicking into place yet. It takes another moment or two before he adds:]

The Pokemon in town said it was okay to hunt in the woods. They eat meat, too.

[moondregs]

… oh.

[ Junpei just kind of … stares at the Fletching. Weighing on if he should explain his conflict or just go along with things. ]

I … don’t think it’ll fit in the basket. You should probably carry it. The basket is almost full anyway.

[ Even as he tries to play it off, he’s clearly distracted enough by his thoughts that he doesn’t even think to collect the berry he’d dropped. Just turns in the direction of the guild base and slowly, awkwardly starts walking. ]

[firealone]

[Part of him is disappointed, because he really doesn't want to drag this huge bird all the way back home. But he's got the apprentice spirit, aka a strong drive to prove himself as strong and capable under all circumstances.

But he also notices the berries, and hesitates before grabbing those to catch Junpei down.]

Wait wait wait, [it's muffled around the berries.] At least lemme put these in the basket.

[Oh, why stop him? There's nothing wrong with it, right? A 'mon's gotta eat! Dark Heart is lounging on a downed tree nearby, watching Firepaw rear up and then-- bam!

He whistles, impressed.]

Not a bad catch, eh Firepaw?

[firealone]

[He startles slightly, although he knows other Pokemon are out and about, and whips around to see Dark Heart. It takes him a second, but he ends up beaming with pride and dragging the Fletchling closer to show him.]

Yeah, not bad at all!

[He's pretty small for a Litten, so this bird is the same size as him. It feels like taking down a very dumb hawk.]

I think this is the biggest thing I've ever caught.

[Dark Heart doesn't have the squeamish reservations that others have about sentience or whatever. Food is food, meat is meat. The Nickit before you has been every creature at one point or another-- it's just not a big deal.]

Ha! I'll say!

[He reaches to nudge at it with his paw.]

A bad gust of wind and this could've taken you out!

[A wrecking ball with wings from up on high.]

[He's had several very hard conversations about morality and Pokemon-hunting, so it feels great to just get praise for his hunting. His fur puffs up with pride, and his eyes are gleaming with delight.]

Do you eat freshkill- er- uncooked prey? I was gonna bring this back to the city to get cooked, but I'm sure no one would mind if we just ate it.

[Even back home, he had a habit of eating before he'd brought food back for the Clan. But to be honest, all kittens do.]

Me?

[Honestly, he doesn't think much about eating. It's not that he hasn't needed to, just that he has to do it far less frequently than humans. This new body has been something to acclimate to, but that may be one of the bigger adjustments.

He waves a hand.]

You earned it fair and square. Go on and take it-- no one'll mind, right?

[In this case it's probably true.]

[firealone]

[He'll take that as a no. Not surprising, although it's been an adjustment to learn he's basically the only creature-turned-Pokemon who eats raw meat. Cooked food is great, but he can't imagine going the rest of his time here never hunting birds.]

Alright - but you're missing out, Fletchlings are the best thing I've found so far.

[He hasn't been as successful hunting here as he would be at home, but animals are huge here. Although now that he thinks about it...]

...You don't seem as troubled about it as the other Twolegs are.

[He guesses he never actually asked what Dark Heart used to be.]
